Current Playing Super Mario RPG.

This is probably my third attempt at playing it over the years, so I definitely want to finish it this time.
I remember way back when it was first made the English Nintendo Magazine had a big feature on it. And then when it was cancelled for Europe, they ran another big section about it (I think it was almost a full walkthrough). I was really hyped and disappointed as a kid so I do owe it to myself to play it through properly.

Also played a bit of Cave Story (awesome freeware game) today. I don't have a lot of time so I probably won't keep playing it right now. I might wait for the WiiWare release - it's good enough that I would like to pay for it. I'd like it to sell well.
Definitely worth checking out though.

This site will have all you need - the freeware download and the translation patch, if anyone does want to check it out:

Also, a music video:

I remember being the opposite of hyped for Mario RPG as a kid. I just wanted another classic style Mario game. But when I played it, it became one of my favorite games. Still is to this day.

I think I had just built Mario RPG up into something it wasn't - because it didn't get released here. You always want something more when you can't have it.

I didn't even really like RPGs when I was young but I thought the graphics were cool and I was hoping for a more Zelda-like Mario game (not gameplay-wise but in terms of depth and story). I was hyped because it was something new and then when it wasn't released it just made me more curious and wanting it more.

It's kind of how people build up games that weren't released - games like Sonic X-treme or the Zelda Spaceworld 2000 Demo or Metroid Dread. Nobody knows anything about these games (Zelda was just a prerendered video - there was no game) but because they're inaccessible (forbidden?), they've been built up into something they aren't.

Well my Seaman DIED... no reason given... R.I.P. Seaman Jack.

So I'm playing a lot R-type these days. Big surprise, huh? R-types on PSX is a packaging of the first two arcade games. Man, those games hard! Even for a shmup. EVEN for R-TYPE! Also got around to playing R-type Delta (PSX). It is divine... just a wonderful game.

Also playing Carrier (DC). It's a survival horror game set on a mutation invested aircraft carrier. The voice acting and script is so bad it's brilliant. It's got some B-movie charm and I'm diggin it. Plus it's got lots of J-horror gore.

When we finally get around to getting a 360 that game is high on my list. I loved Civ II back in the day.

Plus I love anything history oriented.

I can't wait to see you tackle 360 games, brutha.

Also can't wait to get your latest April material, wink wink. From what you tell me, it sounds like it's going to be gold. Naturally, I check my mailbox every day. Smile

No pressure, no pressure. Wink

Just finished Fable 2, it felt.. well, short to be honest. I expected it to be longer, but the whole deal with being able to play co-op added some pretty good gameplay value, at least for me.

Havent had the time to start playing anything new recently due to work and other things.

Yeah, I was just out of work for 3 whole weeks. No money comin in, so it was hard to even work on the show, or play/review any games. I just went back to work Tuesday, and since Matthew sent me a whole freakin box of games, I'm going to be busy.

Actually, my girlfriend, Steph (Gamergirl220 on the forums) is really into Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb, one of the games that was in the box.

I will admit, the Harrison Ford sound alike isn't bad, though the graphics need work.

But, it's not all about graphics. One day, I'll have to sit down and play the damn game.

I finished up Suikoden Tierkreis (DS) about a week ago. Great storyline and characters. The gameplay was really simplified compared to the other console Suikoden games though. And the game itself was really, really, really easy. I never died once so I almost feel like I was missing something because I never got to see what the game over screen looked like lol. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Also beat Half-Life 2 on the 360 via the Orange Box. It's been a long time since I played the original Half-Life so this was great to pick up. Exceeds where Half-Life always had, a great atmosphere, shady and mysterious storyline and solid gameplay. I'm not playing Episode One of Half-Life 2 which takes place immediately after the end of the last game.

Also picked up and started playing WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009 for the 360 which is my first wrestling game since I got WCW vs. NWO World Tour on the N64 in the late 90s. Nice game here. I played the demo of 2008 and didn't like it very much but I feel 2009 is a good improvement. I still think this series could be refined control-wise and design-wise. I don't think the developers pay enough attention to the atmosphere of a WWE event, such as little stuff like making the music sound like it's booming and echoing in an arena, or making the crowd louder, or the pyro not sounding like cheap 4th of July street fireworks. But the gameplay is the most important thing and it's a solid work.
