What games do you remember fondly, that disappoint you now?.Do any of you have fond memories of games you played as a kid. Then you go and play them again on an emulator or whatever today...and find yourself scratching your head wondering what the hell you were thinking?.
I had such great memories of games like yar's revnge and the empire strikes back on the atari. But now if i play them i get bored within 5 minutes.
I used to spend hours playing them before.
Other games i feel didn't stand the test of time IMO are....
jungle hunt

For me it's Gunstar Heroes.
When I was young, we rented that game a few times from the local video-shop (Goggle Box). At the time I had a Mega Drive (Genesis) and my friend had a SNES. We used to rent Gunstar Heroes for my Mega Drive and Mega Man X for his SNES.
At the time Gunstar Heroes was almost like a 2-player Mega Man X to us.
I've played the game recently and I'm a little dissappointed. It's still an excellent game but I don't really like the physics of the game and I'm not too keen on the weapons. Only a few of them are really useful and the seeking weapon (combined with the lazer) makes the game too easy.
I think it's just that I always considered it equal to Mega Man X, which really it isn't. It's still an excellent game, though.

I use to love the side scrolling beat 'em ups like 'Final Fight', and 'Streets Of Rage', and while these games still hold up very well, there are some that just don't measure up to them. Some games i remember that i regret buying are 'Rival Turf', 'Peace Keepers', and 'Brawl Brothers' for the Super NES. They just seem like pale imitations by comparison to other games in the gerne. I'd also like to include 'Maximum Carnage'. In retrospect, it was kinda fun, but the graphics can look pretty bad at times. I also owned the sequel, 'Separation Anxiety', which was much worse by comparison. Some more games i regret owning are the PS1 ports of 'Revolution X', the 'Batman Forever' arcade game, and 'Roger Rabbit' for the NES. As well as 'Bug' for the Sega Saturn.

I started playing Donkey Kong Country 2 again today.
I'm fairly dissappointed. I always remembered it being the best of the series but I've played through the first 3 worlds and they've all been fairly boring so far. I know there's a lot of cool stuff later on with the brambles and stuff but right now, I'm not excited.
Donkey Kong Country was always a good game. It's over-rated. It is really just a remake of Super Mario World with a few new gameplay mechanics and flashy graphics. But it's a good game.
It always had alot of replay value. I spent about two months replaying the first game looking for secrets, back in the day. I found thousands of secrets but never reached 100%.
I've played the first one recently and its still cool. I'm dissappointed the second one isn't as good as I remembered. It's still pretty good but it's kind of boring.

It sure was. I have an ad for it in one of my old EGM's.
To me, Altered Beast hasn't aged too well. The controls are clunky and the games not as fun as I remember.

Pretty much every Mortal Kombat game.
They're all pretty bad, with clunky controls, bad AI and the digitized graphics are pretty lame now.

Mortal Kombat 4 was bad!
And yes, to any gamer of today, anything with digitized graphics would be dated and lame.
I, on the other hand, still like it.
