Welcome to America indeed

This is a common complaint amongst us born and raised in America folk. People who come to our country, but still speak their native language. To us, it's a problem. Why?

Does it occur to us that when russians, asians, mexicans and others come to this country, one of the first things they normally do is learn to speak acceptable english so they can work? Not everyone goes on food stamps and welfare. Why does it bother people when foreign people speak to others in their own language? I live in Brooklyn, most of my neighborhood is asian people. You get on the train, and they start chatting with each other in chinese, or japanese or whatever. Does it bother me? Hell no. It's not my business what they talk about amongst each other. Not everyone has to speak english if they don't want to, and in some cases, you don't necessarily have to in order to hold down a job. Understanding it, helps.

I just think people need to stop worrying so much about how many foreign immigrants in this country don't speak english 100% of the time. So what if they want to talk to each other in Russian or Pakistani? It's their native language. They're comfortable with it. Let it be!

I can follow you much of the way, yet I think at work you should talk English at least when you are working together whit someone sure it might just be a guy or two, but for these guys it can be really annoying that the other three guys you are working whit is chatting in a languid you donīt understand shit off.

So I think it is common consideration to your fellow workers that you speak the native languid of that country (if you can do it that is) when you are on a break and only sitting whit some of your fellow countrymen okay speak your native languid whit them, but if another one of your colleges join your little group switch to English it really isnīt that hard.

Thatīs what I think anyways let them talk there native languid all they want in trains, shops and such, you donīt know the guy sitting or standing next to you and he or she properly donīt give a damn about you anyways.

So in your spare time talk whatever languid you want when at work, stick whit the languid of whatever country you live in, it is common consideration and all in all I think it will make you more accepted by your colleges because you are not shutting them out of your conversation.

Donīt know if you agree there john?

At work, yeah, I agree. Like I said, most of the immigrants who join the work force would have to learn to speak english in order to work, period. Doesn't mean they have to speak it all the time. If I got 2 mexicans sittin next to me at lunch, and we're all having a conversation, yes, english would help the conversation along. They should be able to speak it and understand it. However, if the 2 mexicans are talking amongst themselves at lunch, and I still happen to be sitting next to them, or nearby, I don't care what they say. Maybe the problem with us Americans is that we think they're talking about us. Maybe all that hard to understand language is them cursing us out, or making fun of the way we dress, the way we eat, or how we act.

I got news for you. We're no better. We make fun of those different from us, too. If they wear funny hats, or clothing, and even imitate the language they use. Folks, how do you know that they're not making fun of you, too? They're human, like us. It's only fair that they, too, mock us for whatever we do in our culture.

Here's life little lesson. No one is better than anyone else. There is no superior race, no superior color, creed, or even religion (whole other debate). Everyone on this earth is created equal. Deal with it. If nothing else, you should have learned that shit in the 3rd grade.

Well if you are to believe this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfRUMmTs0ZA people arenīt learning a thing at all.
But hey even though they proclaim that American schools are bad, the schools in Denmark isnīt that much more interesting at least not when i went in schools, but then again i am 24 so it wasnīt exactly yesterday i went in school.

Ok, I stopped when I heard "we need more money". Do you realize how many years people have been saying that? That's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard.

HAHAHAHA, Monopoly in class?? WTF? And no, teachers have no control over kids, same way parents have no control over their own.

Heh, maybe I should start watching Jay Leno. Any segment on TV that shows just how dumb we really are is entertaining enough for me, even if I, myself, don't know the answer to these questions.

Whoa, wait a minute. The principal hands out dollar bills to the school kids? Well, gee, that's incentive to try harder. Hey, to get them to try harder on the midterm, get them a motorcycle. Guaranteed A+

Ok, enough about the video. My high school, I hear, is being shut down because of low test scores, or something to that effect. And to be honest, I dropped out of there in...like...1997. I wasn't getting anywhere. I got my GED, went to college, and passed. I should be getting my associates shortly (heh, we'll see how that helps me).

Some schools might disagree whit that, so to show what really happened when the school did get more money, they showed a school who had gotten so much money that they could afford first class equipment.

But even though they got a sports arena that had Olympic standards, did it improve on their test scores, did the academic level of the school get any high?

The answer is simple no it didnīt it remained exactly where it had always been, so you are right they donīt need more money, they need better control and better teachers.

This nation was built on immigration. I'm the decendant of immigrants as are 99% of Americans. That being said, every wave of immigrants, be it the Irish and Germans in the 1840s, the Italians in the 1900s, or the first Latino immigrants in the 1940s and 50s adapted to American culture, not the other way around. In the service industry it needs to be English. And it's becoming a necessity to speak Spanish in order to get a job as a teacher in this country. We have a great country, so of course people wanna come here. I'm happy to have them, but if I joined another culture, I wouldn't expect them to adapt to me. I would embrace and learn.
