VMTV Ticker- Whatcha playing right now?

Post what games you're currently playing. How far along are ya? Like it? Recommend it?

Away we go!

Castle Shikigami 2 (PS2)- Realesed as Shikigami No Shiro in Japan, this is a "bullet hell" shooter that's been giving me fits. Been working on it for a while, but I keep running out of lives at the end. Hard but fun. I shall conquer! Gotta finish this one so I can jump on Gradius V.

MLB07 The Show/ MVP 06 NCAA Baseball (PS2)- It's baseball season in the states, and I'm in full hardball mode. Playing the "Road to the Show" in MLB07 is a blast. You create a player and start out in the minor leagues trying to work your way up to the majors. You only play parts of the game that you take part in (your at-bats, defensive plays, baserunning) so you can play through a lot of games quickly. The NCAA game plays great and my interest in college ball has increased due to the fact that my cousin Dusty is a freshman 3rd baseman for the NC State Wolfpack. If you dig baseball, either one is a lot of fun.

Super Castlevania IV (SNES)- I've never beat this game. I'm really close but the clock tower level is kicking my ass. Easily one of the finest games I've ever played.
KT Kore

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) - What a surprise? Yep, I'm playing Brawl just like almost everyone else. Lots of simple fun. Playing online with friends and strangers is good times. I'm starting to get a little burned out though.

Tales of Phantasia (PSX) - This RPG was originally released on the SNES, but then a superior version was ported over to the Playstation, although it was never released in America. I'm playing an emulated English-patched version that my friend do diligently translated all by his lonesome (and released to the public). The translation is good and the game is good. I like the fighting system as it's like a simple beat 'em up with strong RPG elements (a system that has been greatly refined in current Tales of... games). The characters are fun and the storyline is fine, albeit nothing special (maybe that will change the further I get into it).
Black Flag NC

Never played a Smash Bros. game. Hear they're fun.

Finished Castle Shikigami 2, finally. Bring on Gradius V!
Murder Legendre

GTA IV and Sega Superstar Tennis.

Is Sega Superstar Tennis any good? I'm a big Sega fan, but I've heard mixed reactions to that game.
Murder Legendre

Yeah.  I think it's great.

I mean, you can play as the Dwarf from Golden Axe, and one of the courts is based on Curian's Mansion from House of the Dead.

The minigames are really fun...  one includes fending off a hoard of oncoming zombies with your tennis balls.
KT Kore

S.C.A.T. (NES) - Interesting name huh? No, it's not a game about poop play, it stands for Special Cybernetic Attack Team. This is my kind of old school game. It's like Contra, except you're constantly hovering and you have a lot more fire power. You'll need that fire power because there are enemies coming from all sides of the screen shooting projectiles, heat-seaking missiles, themselves, you name it, it's coming at you. Your eyes won't have any time to rest as you're always gonna be looking out for enemies and enemy fire. And if you die? You go right back to the beginning of the level, no half way points. Luckily, unlike Contra, you're allowed 5 hits as opposed to only 3. Also making it easier is the fact that you can die as much as you want without having to restart the entire game, it will always just start you off at the beginning of the level you were on. At least, I think that's how it goes. But yeah, this game is good times.

Here's some gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLE0WhlpN1A

That game looks sweet! It's like a combination between Contra and Gradius.

KOTOR is still on my wish list. Is Silent Hill Origins good? I hear it's the best one since Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill Origins is good so far...I always have to take a break when I play that game ...freaks me out.

Yeah isn't that great! Silent Hill gives a lot of folks the willies.

Update:

Gradius V (PS2)- I love this game! Like a lot of shooters, this one awards you with credits the more you play. I've gotten quite good with the first few levels, but then the difficulty shoots up and I get waxed.

SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1(PS2)- Got this one in the mail today. I love these compilations! This one is a bunch of old NeoGeo games. Included are:

Art of Fighting
Baseball Stars 2
Burning Fight
Fatal Fury
King of Monsters
Last Resort
Magician Lord
Metal Slug
Neo Turf Masters
Samurai Showdown
Sengoku
Shock Troopers
Super Sidekicks 3
The King of Fighters 94
Top Hunter
World Heroes

All for only $20. Nice.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Not the best Metroidvania game (Super Metroid's the best) but I'd definitely recommend it.

GTA IV - The Best GTA but as with all GTA, it's only as fun as you make it. Still, really great game.

Street Fighter III Third Strike - Great fighter but I'm too old to learn new moves, so I just stick with Ryu or Ken.
Black Flag NC

Mars Matrix (DC)- Outf@%kingstanding shooter from Capcom. Hard as a coffin nail. The game has a shop where you convert your total points to money to purchase upgrades such as more lives/credits, score attack stages, and even better firepower. This game is a work of art and if you dig shmups I highly recommend it.

Bio Hazard Battle (Genesis)- The one and only shooter made by Sega for the US. Great horizontal shooter with some of the most impressive graphics and music I've ever seen for a Genesis game.

Freedom Fighters (PS2)- Played through and beat it for the 5th time. I can't get enough of that game. I guess because I grew up at the tail end of the Cold War the story in the game really appeals to me. The Soviets invade NYC and you must lead a ragtag rebel army to stop them. Great controls and tons of atmosphere make this game one of my all-time favs.

'Final Fantasy VI' (GBA)
I've never played a Final Fantasy game before, so I wanted to try it. I kind of like it so far. The branching story's interesting but it takes itself way too seriously (not necessarily a complaint) and so far none of the characters are all that likeable (not that they have much 'character' to them). Right now I'm not sure if it will hold enough interest for me to finish it, but I'll definitely give it a try.

I donīt play that much right now (busy preparing for a painting competition, gotta get those entires ready in time)

Though when i do play right now its Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

After that iīm hitting the Commander Conquer series.
Black Flag NC

Here's what's on my radar:

Floigan Brothers (DC)- Game should have been so much better. Full of bugs and you can beat it in 3 hours. Seriously.

Dead or Alive 2 (DC) and 3 (Xbox)- I'm not a big fighting game guy but these are easy to get into and are a blast to play with friends. Bree always beats my ass, though.

Panzer Dragoon Orta (Xbox)- Wow. What a game. May be the best on-rail shooter I've ever played (not like there's many). Sega really nailed this one.
KITTIE hXc

Zelda: Twilight Princess. Its awesome! You're link and a wolf. I love how much it reminds me of Link to the past. recomend? YES.

Kingdom Hearts 1. Great game and interesting levels. I was a huge disney fan as a child so the game rocks. Recommend? YES
launchpad25

I've been playing the new Spider-Man game, 'Web Of Shadows'. It's pretty much on par with the past free roaming 'Spidey' games. Here, they made the combat more fun, and the 'bullet time' like web attack is a really nice addition. If your into Spidey, and have enjoyed the previous games, this game definitely worth a look. (Plus, your not delivering pizzas in this one.)

Been playing a ton of Dreamcast.

Under Defeat- Bad-ass helicopter shmup. You release the fire button to rotate your heli. Outstanding graphics. You wouldn't believe this is a DC game. Trees sway with the explosions(awesome!), the sound and music are top notch, and the challenge is perfect. I'm in love. Highly recommended!

Godzilla Generations- No camera control. That's right. It's a game that lets you demolish Tokyo... but doesn't let you SEE you demolish Tokyo. Ugh! It could have been decent. As an extra, the game has a ton of old Godzilla movie trailers to watch.

Seaman- Never got to try this out back in the day. Leonard FREAKIN' Nimoy is in this! Not the kind of game you "play" for more than a few minutes. You check in on the game twice a day or to feed the little bastards or to get them to learn new words. The little shits wouldn't talk to me, but Bree fed them yesterday and they love talking to her. Sexist Seamen!!!

Suikoden II (PSX) - At the recommendation of a friend I started on the Suikoden series. I played the first a couple months ago and loved it, and so far I'm loving the sequel even more. Unfortunately I played this immediately after beating the first one and I've sort of fallen out of my RPG mode (I need to be in the right kind of mood to play these games) so I haven't played it in a while. I'll have to pick it up again before I start forgetting what was going on lol.

NBA2K9 (X360) - It's a basketball game. And it's fun. Yep.
Sora444

Phantasy Star Online for Gamcube: this game is fun and it is the only gamecube game that can go online  Very Happy

I tried one of the PSX Suikoden games a long time ago. I couldn't get into it. I liked the art style. I'm like you, I don't play RPG's much these days. I finished Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast not to far back.

As for NBA2K9? I'm rocking 2K6 on my XBOX. Seriously one of the best basketball games ever. 2K Sports knows their basketball.

They sure do. This is actually my first basketball game since I played the original 2K game on the Dreamcast. Laughing SO MUCH has changed and I was completely lost when I first started, but now I'm getting the hang of it. Unbelievable how far it's come.

My only gripe is the online.
John Gibson

Funny how when people review any sort of game, they give it an average score, but knock down a few points cause of lack of online play, or a flaw in that mode.

These are the people who forget 20-30 years ago, we didn't have online play.
KT Kore

That's the way it goes. Expectations change with the times. You won't find too many people that will buy a full-price cell phone that doesn't do texting or take pictures and videos. That logic applies to everything. Once something good comes along and is easily applicable, then it becomes the standard.

I'm not one that cares too much about online play, but I do realize its importance to people. I have lots of fun with it myself, but I still primarily play games for their single player campaigns and look at online as something of an extra (except for something like the Battlefield series -- I bought Bad Company specifically for the online play lol). But it is the standard now and with games and consoles costing an arm and a leg, they better be all they can be, heh.

The last basketball game I had was 2K1 on the Dreamcast. My attitude towards sports games depends on my interest in said sport. I upgrade NBA games roughly every 5 years.

Hockey- every 2-3 years
Football (NFL)- every 2-3 years
Football (NCAA)- every 4-5 years
Baseball- EVERY year
Soccer- every 5 years
Golf- every 5 years
Nascar- every 4 or 5 years
With boxing and UFC, I stick with a game until I find one better.

With sports games, there's usually not much difference year-to-year so I devised a schedule! Laughing
KT Kore

That's probably a really good idea. I hear a lot of people complaining about 2K9 because not much has changed from recent versions, but here I am loving it because I haven't played one for 9 years lol.

I really don't see any reason for companies to keep putting out brand new games for sports each year anyway. With downloadable content, all they have to do is release some upgrades every once in a while and when they come across something major, like a new engine or something, THEN make a new game.

Not playing anything just yet, but once the Feb show gets done, I want to devote time to as many games as possible. I'm thinking about getting back into GTA: Vice City. That game got me addicted no matter whose home I was in, mine or my GF's, cause we both have a copy of the game.

I also have the PSP, plus Death Jr, and Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins, so I'll give those a whirl.

Been thinking about Return to Castle Wolfenstein for the PC. I had the game, deleted it, then when the 320 drive went bad, I lost the ZIP file, so I gotta find it all over again.

GTA Vice City is my favorite in the last-gen series. I love the 80's Scarface vibe. I have Return to Castle Wolfenstein on Xbox if you want that version cause I've beat it.

I picked up Suikoden II again a few days ago and quickly put in 12 more hours to finally beat it. The story and characters are so much better than the first (and the first was good). The gameplay is relatively the same, simple but effective. RPGs are one of the rare cases where I play more for the story than anything else though lol. And it delivered nicely there. It got a little repetitive toward the end with you going to various city-states to hopefully persuade their army to join your cause, but it all ended nicely with a tragic twist toward the end. A memorable journey and is one of the better RPGs I've played in a while. Sadly I no longer have a PS2 so I can't pick up Suikoden III-V. Maybe I'll get a cheap one on eBay one of these days. This seems like a nice series. I recently picked up a Nintendo DS so maybe I'll get the latest title that's coming out on March 17.
Black Flag NC

Just started Wild Arms 5 on PS2. I play my RPGs one or two at a time and I finish everyone I start. I recently finished Dragon Quest 8 (only took 4 years!) and needed a new one. This is my first in the series. I love the Wild West theme and the characters don't annoy the piss outta me. It's not overly anime so I think I'm really gonna enjoy it.

Also been playing Raiden Project (PSX). It's the first 2 Raiden arcade games together. It's a early PSX game but it's a nice little package. Even has a remixed soundtrack.

And of course, Seaman. The more time we spend with this "game" the more charming I think it is. Bree and I love our dry-witted underwater friend.
Chris

I downloaded the Legends of Wrestlemania demo on PS3 last night.  Generally when I do this, it means I spend 20 minutes sitting on my couch with the SIXAXIS resting on my chest as it SLOWLY downloads the demo and then has to go and install it.

Once it was installed, I started it up and I was very pleasantly surprised at the love for old school WWF found in the demo.  Hulk Hogan's "Real American" music blared and it was awesome.

The problem is the gameplay.  I hate it.  It feels lousy.  Some of the best wrestling games ever made (I think) were WCW/NWO Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000.  Why not make a game based on that engine, just with next gen graphics?  So unfortunate....I'll give it another try and see if I change my mind, but the initial impressions are disappointing.

This was the problem I had with the Legends of Wrestling series last gen. I love that old-school 80's wrestling vibe but the gameplay was ass.

I'd be happy with a Fire Pro Wrestling: Legends. I love FPW Returns on the PS2, but I had to make my own Ultimate Warrior... and Andre... and Kamala...

Heh, didn't know you had a PS3. We never had a PS3 review on the show. Can we expect a review from you on the PS3? It's ok if it's a downloaded game, or a demo. Maybe we can bring back the old "Shareware Dimension" segment, and re-name it a bit so we can talk about downloaded demos.

Have you played the remake of Bionic Commando, or Mega Man 9, etc?

Yeah I got a PS3 from my parents for my 30th birthday last year.  Really my only interest in it has been Bluray if I'm being honest.  I have one game for it, Little Big Planet, which I have barely touched as of yet.  I mainly download demo's to see if there is anything that sparks my interest.

As far as Bionic Commando, I haven't played it but would like to.  I have Mega Man 9 on the Wii Virtual Console.
John Gibson

I wanted to review Mega Man 9, so at least I can back up my rant I did on it, with something solid, but I'm getting the feeling I won't get around to it, so I'll leave it open.

As for Bionic Commando, if I ever get access to it, I'm goin for it.
Chris

Yeah I'd review Mega Man 9 if I thought I had the credibility to do so.  But the fact is, I've always been lukewarm on the Mega Man series.  I play them casually, generally don't do so hot, put them down for awhile, and come back later.  Not a bad series by any means, just not one that I've been too attached to over the years.
John Gibson

Ohh, there's lots of games I play that I'm not attached to, whether a good or bad game.

I think if I was reviewing the game, I'd review it more as a sequel than a standalone game. Kinda hard to do it standalone after so many games of the same crap.

But, in the end, review what ya want. Smile

Just finished Super Paper Mario. I've played a Paper Mario for each of the last three years - Paper Mario in 2007, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door in 2008 and Super Paper Mario in 2009. It was kind of a private tradition.

The first one is still my favourite - it seems like the definitive Mushroom Kingdom story - classic Mario vs. Bowser scenario with way more story elements and mythology than you'd find in a standard Mario platformer.

Thousand Year Door was good but it felt like an exact copy of the original with a slightly worse story and sharper graphics. Good game but I don't think it pushed things far enough. It just felt like the same game again. Still well-worth playing.

Super Paper Mario was really good - I like how they mixed things up with the real-time platformer gameplay. I liked it better than the gamecube game but not as much as the original - mostly just because the story wasn't as strong. Still definitely recommended.

Going to move onto Castlevania Order of Ecclesia soon, when I find the time (which is very hard these days).
John Gibson

Ya know, I would have liked to finish Super Paper Mario. That was a fun game, wouldn't have minded owning it too. That, and Excitetruck.
Chris

I very much enjoy Super Paper Mario and Excitetruck.  I have to get around to finishing both.  I'm pretty far in both titles though.

Currently Playin: Resident Evil 5
John Gibson

Curious to see how it is. I'll probably never get around to playin it, though.
GameLifeDave

tis quite amusing actually, especially since if you play it b y yourself you have a computer partner, or you can have some random person you never talkted to before from new zealand join your game over live, and turn it into co-op campaign mode, and when they leave, it reverts back to single player campaign
KT Kore

Since I got a Nintendo DS last week I've been rocking a few quick games. I just beat Sonic Rush which was good classic Sonic fun (honestly I think the franchise should just stick to these kind of games and give up on the 3D stuff because it's not working. I would love to play some new low budget 2D sonic games available on WiiWare or XBLA just like Mega Man 9 or something). Started on Sonic Rush Adventure which is equally as fun, though I could do without the long-winded boring cut scenes. I laughed at some of the training aspects in the beginning. It was like "to run right...press RIGHT on the D-Pad!" Ohhhh! Is THAT how you go right? Never would have guessed. Laughing

I also beat New Super Mario Bros. which was a great return to classic style Super Mario. A very quick play though. I wish it was a least as big as Super Mario World. I started on Yoshi's Island DS as Yoshi's Island on SNES is one of my favorite Mario games. So far it's very nice. The music is boring compared to the first one though (the SNES one had some of my favorite Mario music).

I've also been TRYING to play Contra 4. This game is very awesome but I can't even get past the second level. This is old school Contra right here and either I suck at it now (and I beat the original Contra as a kid without using the Konami Code) or this game is hard as balls. Probably a little of both. Good times nonetheless.

I also picked up Final Fantasy III and IV DS remakes. Never played any of these when they first came out so I figured I'd try out what are supposed to be the "definitive versions." I also got Chrono Trigger DS. Always been one of my favorite RPGs but I haven't played it since the SNES days. This is also supposed to be a "definitive version." And last but not least I picked up the new Suikoden Tierkreis game. As a new Suikoden fan I had to get this. Didn't even need to read any reviews, but I hear it's getting good reviews. I'll probably start on this in about a week when I have more free time.
Splodge

I'm not a big fan of Sonic Rush. It just didn't feel right - there were too many bottomless pits and the game played itself far more than most Sonic games. It was kind of cheap (Not in the good Mega Man, trial and error style) - it didn't feel like a platformer at all. Also there were almost no enemies in the levels for some reason.

This is coming from a big old-school Sonic fan (seriously my life can be divided up into two substantial parts; times when I'm playing Sonic 3 and times when I'm not).

Still, I should go back and play it again. If you enjoyed it maybe I missed something. I might revisit it.

I did like New Super Mario Bros but the control didn't feel as tight as the old NES and SNES games. Because they incorporated a lot more moves (some of the jumps from the 3D games) the control feels a lot looser and floaty. It was a little too easy and didn't deliver the really tight run and jump platforming I wanted.
I would like to see a New Super Mario Bros. 2 though, especially if they used sprites instead of 3D models.

Me, I've been playing Alex Kidd in Miracle World. I've never played a Master System game before but I've heard good things about it. It's dated a lot but in context of the time it was made, it is okay.
KT Kore

^All of your complaints about the first Sonic Rush are legit. It certainly is a very speedy game and doesn't have as many platforming elements as the original Genesis games but it doesn't play itself like a lot of the 3D Sonic games do. I thought it was okay in that aspect. The bottomless pits were a problem and to me enemy placement was a problem since you'd be encouraged to go really fast and then all of a sudden an enemy pops up and hits you. But overall I still thought it was a fun game, but I probably liked the Sonic Advance games better.

I finished Sonic Rush Adventure last night and it was a big improvement in most of your complaints (if you thought the first Sonic Rush played itself too much then not much has changed here). There are far less bottomless pits and cheap deaths, enemies are placed better. There are also a lot of added things that I enjoyed like traveling to various islands on different vehicles and controlling them with the stylus. There was a jet ski that let you just zoom through and do various tricks to gain boost to go faster and run through enemies. There was a big ship with different weapons like a gun, cannon and flame thrower. There was a hover craft that let you do spins to deflect enemy fire as well as its own gun. And there was a submarine that let you fire torpedoes at enemies with the right timing of a stylus click. And you'd have to use these various vehicles depending on how you draw your route to your next location. There would be different things blocking your path that only certain vehicles could get through. It was a nice little addition that I found to be fun.

The boss battles were pretty easy but I thought they were even more interesting than the first Rush game. One of my favorites was a huge robotic fish that would open its mouth and you'd have to run into it and run through a mini stage a few times to hit its core before time ran out.

Negatives about the game include the annoying little cutscenes with probably my least favorite new Sonic character yet -- Marine the Raccoon. Oh MAN was she annoying and they made her talk with an Australian accent so all of her text was just a chore to read. There was also some pirate enemies who also talked with annoying Pirate slang. So between having to read Marine and the Pirates' dialogue, it nearly drove me up a wall. As for the story, I'm not sure where they were going with it but to be honest I barely even paid attention to it. I mean, Sonic doesn't need a storyline. I just need to be kicking Eggman's ass all over the place and that should be the bottom line.

Another negative is having to replay levels a bunch of times in order to get the materials you needed in order to build new vehicles. That got annoying quickly and it was just a cheap way to lengthen the game.

That was my first Master System game other than Hang-On and Safari Hunt, which came with the system. I still catch myself humming the music from the title screen.

It was a neat little platformer. Forest level kicked my ass back in the day.
Chris

Yeah Alex Kidd in Miracle World was the Sega Master System game to have back in the day.  I became a big Alex Kidd fan, and as great as the original was, the sequel was an absolute mess.  I've actually been contemplating lately whether or not to tackle Alex Kidd 1&2 as a sort of combined mini review or something like that.

I didn't even know Master System existed when I was a kid. lol

Well if you want interesting characters or story in a Final fantasy game i would say go for Final Fantasy VII.

It has the best story with excellent twist and turns sure its PS1 graphic but hey who cares about mediocre graphic when the gameplay and story is great.

I would however advise you to stay away from FF XI (unless you want to play online) and FFXII it has the worst story ever and has very little in form of character development and plot.

Without saying to much something happens in the first few hours of the game that really makes the main characters continual involvement completely pointless.

I generally don't care for anything Final Fantasy, but FF7 is the most important RPG in history. It launched the RPG craze that is still going strong.

It was an amazing game and I still love it. Most RPGs make me homicidal because of the cutesy anime characters, nonsensical stories, and repetitious dialogue ("Here's the 87th time we've established this plot point!").

But FF7 still rocks. Can't believe there's been no remake.....
Erikjust

Well in a way there has been the intro has been remade with ps3 graphic

Though last i heard there wasnīt any planning on continuing beyond that point.

And then there is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII a sort prequel to the FFVII game.

But with FF13 coming up, there might be a chance of a remake, if it sucks horribly.

Man oh man I finally got past the second level of Conta 4. Now I can make it to level 4 without any trouble. Now I'm stuck on level 4 lol. Can't get past that freakin' flying rocket bit. Gotta be so precise in your jumping AND watch your back from coming projectiles. This game is a beast. And I love it.

As for Final Fantasy, I haven't played any of them except for 8 and the first disc on 9. 8 was my first ever. Most people seem to dislike it but I enjoyed it a lot, probably because it was my first. And I never finished 9. I didn't really form much of an opinion on it.

I'll play FF7 one day.

I got 3 and 4 for DS so I'll probably play those first.
KT Kore

Finally made it up to level 7 in Contra 4. Not too much longer until I'm able to beat it. As a test I went back to play the original Contra on the NES and I ended up beating it on my first try without using a continue and without using the Konami code. First time I've beaten that game without the Konami code since I was a kid, and I don't think I've ever done it without using a continue before lol. Contra 4 is intense training. *nods*

I also picked up and started playing Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure which is an interesting hybrid of platforming and puzzle gaming. It's mostly a platformer but you'll have to stop and go into the "puzzle realm" in order to stop enemy blocks from making their way into your realm and causing you trouble. You can also get powerups, health, and other things depending on what's in the puzzle. The storyline is awesomely ridiculous. You're an old English man who has to get this golden suit which has the power to close the puzzle realm. All the while you have this other tea drinking villian who wants to get it before you. So you go out, find the first piece of the suit which is the golden hat and it makes you younger. You also have the ability to get into a giant robot and reek havoc on everything by shooting lasers andjet fists and missiles all over. The game is wacky. It's good fun

Current Playing Super Mario RPG.

This is probably my third attempt at playing it over the years, so I definitely want to finish it this time.
I remember way back when it was first made the English Nintendo Magazine had a big feature on it. And then when it was cancelled for Europe, they ran another big section about it (I think it was almost a full walkthrough). I was really hyped and disappointed as a kid so I do owe it to myself to play it through properly.

Also played a bit of Cave Story (awesome freeware game) today. I don't have a lot of time so I probably won't keep playing it right now. I might wait for the WiiWare release - it's good enough that I would like to pay for it. I'd like it to sell well.
Definitely worth checking out though.

This site will have all you need - the freeware download and the translation patch, if anyone does want to check it out:

I remember being the opposite of hyped for Mario RPG as a kid. I just wanted another classic style Mario game. But when I played it, it became one of my favorite games. Still is to this day.
Splodge

I think I had just built Mario RPG up into something it wasn't - because it didn't get released here. You always want something more when you can't have it.

I didn't even really like RPGs when I was young but I thought the graphics were cool and I was hoping for a more Zelda-like Mario game (not gameplay-wise but in terms of depth and story). I was hyped because it was something new and then when it wasn't released it just made me more curious and wanting it more.

It's kind of how people build up games that weren't released - games like Sonic X-treme or the Zelda Spaceworld 2000 Demo or Metroid Dread. Nobody knows anything about these games (Zelda was just a prerendered video - there was no game) but because they're inaccessible (forbidden?), they've been built up into something they aren't.

Well my Seaman DIED... no reason given... R.I.P. Seaman Jack.

So I'm playing a lot R-type these days. Big surprise, huh? R-types on PSX is a packaging of the first two arcade games. Man, those games hard! Even for a shmup. EVEN for R-TYPE! Also got around to playing R-type Delta (PSX). It is divine... just a wonderful game.

Also playing Carrier (DC). It's a survival horror game set on a mutation invested aircraft carrier. The voice acting and script is so bad it's brilliant. It's got some B-movie charm and I'm diggin it. Plus it's got lots of J-horror gore.
KT Kore

Just beat Henry Hatsworth and MAN did it get tough in the last couple worlds. This game gets an A by me. I wouldn't mind seeing another.

Right now iīm trying powers with Civilization IV donīt know quite what to think of it.

When we finally get around to getting a 360 that game is high on my list. I loved Civ II back in the day.

Plus I love anything history oriented.
John Gibson

I can't wait to see you tackle 360 games, brutha.

Also can't wait to get your latest April material, wink wink. From what you tell me, it sounds like it's going to be gold. Naturally, I check my mailbox every day. Smile

No pressure, no pressure. Wink
Chris

I've been playing Bonsai Barber on Wii, what a fun little title.

On DS, playing Art Style: Aquira and Brain Age: Express Math as well as GTA Chinatown Wars.
DrapskunstUlf

Just finished Fable 2, it felt.. well, short to be honest. I expected it to be longer, but the whole deal with being able to play co-op added some pretty good gameplay value, at least for me.

Havent had the time to start playing anything new recently due to work and other things.
John Gibson

Yeah, I was just out of work for 3 whole weeks. No money comin in, so it was hard to even work on the show, or play/review any games. I just went back to work Tuesday, and since Matthew sent me a whole freakin box of games, I'm going to be busy.

Actually, my girlfriend, Steph (Gamergirl220 on the forums) is really into Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb, one of the games that was in the box.

I liked it, too. It's just ass ugly.  Laughing
John Gibson

I will admit, the Harrison Ford sound alike isn't bad, though the graphics need work.

But, it's not all about graphics. One day, I'll have to sit down and play the damn game.

Currently playing:

Guitar Hero World Tour - Xbox 360 (picked up the $189.99 version for $99.99 from WalMart this week)

World of Warcraft - PC (Dualboxing two characters at once, superfun)

Wii Fit - Wii (Daily workout routine)

Pokemon Pearl - DS (Guilty Pleasure)

I finished up Suikoden Tierkreis (DS) about a week ago. Great storyline and characters. The gameplay was really simplified compared to the other console Suikoden games though. And the game itself was really, really, really easy. I never died once so I almost feel like I was missing something because I never got to see what the game over screen looked like lol. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Also beat Half-Life 2 on the 360 via the Orange Box. It's been a long time since I played the original Half-Life so this was great to pick up. Exceeds where Half-Life always had, a great atmosphere, shady and mysterious storyline and solid gameplay. I'm not playing Episode One of Half-Life 2 which takes place immediately after the end of the last game.

Also picked up and started playing WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009 for the 360 which is my first wrestling game since I got WCW vs. NWO World Tour on the N64 in the late 90s. Nice game here. I played the demo of 2008 and didn't like it very much but I feel 2009 is a good improvement. I still think this series could be refined control-wise and design-wise. I don't think the developers pay enough attention to the atmosphere of a WWE event, such as little stuff like making the music sound like it's booming and echoing in an arena, or making the crowd louder, or the pyro not sounding like cheap 4th of July street fireworks. But the gameplay is the most important thing and it's a solid work.

Score Baja 1000(PS2)- It's not all that great, but I can't stop playing it. Off-road racer based on the famous race down in Mexico.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul(DC)- Really cool futuristic adventure game (with David Bowie!) by Quantic Dream who would later do Indigo Prophecy.

Medal of Honor(PSX)- Playing through it again after all these years. Still fun. Forgot how great the sound and atmosphere were.

The Last Remnant on pc and perhaps later Persona 4 on ps2

That game looks pretty sweet. May give it a shot when I get a 360.

Bree and I have FINALLY gotten around to playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic(Xbox). We're both hopelessly hooked. What a game for Star Wars fans.
John Gibson

Steph loves KOTOR on X-Box. I tried asking if she would review it, but she's a bit shy about being on the show.

If you guys want to review it sometime in Season 4, that would rock!
GameLifeDave

I gotta say, I'm very happy playing Ghostbusters For the XBOX 360 (yes it doesn't come til tuesday so check my sig for proof) Ahh the wonders of having a modded 360.....oops did I say that out loud.
John Gibson

*Darth Vader mode*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
StrifeDeliveries

Been playing Star Ocean: Til The End Of Time....... and honestly, I dont think this game could last that long because if it did..... I might just play with the 5:15 bus that drives by my house at 50 mph......
Chris

I've been playing alot of Pictobits, Tiger Woods 10 for the Wii, Texas Hold'em Tournament (Wiiware), and Mario vs. DK Minis March Again.
Black Flag NC

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (PS2)- I beat it when it came out but I'm playing through it again now that I've unlocked Daredaevil and Nick Fury. Great game. Mindless superhero action. Only complaint: No Punisher. WTF?

There's a sequel coming soon, I think.
John Gibson

I actually bought Ultimate Alliance for the 360 (when I owned it). Never got to play it, that's why I sold everything. Console and games.

Shame. I kinda was looking forward to playing it.

Feel free to review that game on the show if you want.
KITTIE hXc

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (PS2)- Finished it! I would have liked to play as the Punisher or Night Crawler!
Black Flag NC

Xmen Legends II (ps2)- Played the first one at a friends house when it came out. I liked it and I found the second one for 5 bucks last week. It's pretty fun if you're a Marvel geek.

My team: Magneto, Nightcrawler, Deadpool, Colossus.
Talonluck

Been playing Borderlands (360), Forza 3 (360), and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360).
John Gibson

Finally playing Bionic Commando: Rearmed for the PC. I absolutely love it. The only sad part is I'm almost finished with the game after only 1 day.

So next, I play it on Normal skill, not easy. Maybe that's the problem.

Review coming soon. I'm debating on whether I should use FRAPS, or wait until I can get my TV Tuner card to work on my TV.
Black Flag NC

Bree got me Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) for our 1 year anniversary. It's really good. They fixed a few bugs from the first game and plus there's a level called Pumpkin Hill that is one of the coolest levels of any platformer ever.

Also playing Everblue 2 (PS2). It's a first-person, scuba diving/treasure hunting RPG. Really weird, but oddly addictive.
John Gibson

I tried Ghostbusters on the PC last night. Crashed after the intro movie. Fuck!

Other than that, just been trying to get my hands on whatever. I've just recently played Super Mario Bros X, and Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. Once I can get TV out on my new PC, we got reviews for those.

I've been spending so much time on trying to find games, or in the case of Ghostbusters, trying to get games (that fuckin work), and then I realize, I got a show to put out, don't I?

I just got myself a DVD camcorder, though no mini DVD's to record with, or even a proper AV cable to output, but I still got my regular mini DV camcorder, so I'll probably film a bit this week, cause it's halfway in the can anyways.
