Video Masters TV- Season 3- Episode 1- August, 2008

Well, it's August 2nd (as I write this), and it looks like my filming is about complete. I have a Play View to film later today, which I'm sure is going to drain me a great deal.

So far, we got some great stuff lined up, it's not a complete list of stuff, but rest assured, it's kick ass material.

The show will be officially released on August 22nd. Check back to this spot for more info.

Season 3!! Woot, woot!!

I'm mega stoked!!
John Gibson

Same here. I'm headed to Steph's house, we're filmin the Play View for Shenmue tonight. It should be good.

Have yet to hear from Jason, if he's got something. Matt Rau is at a Retro Gaming Expo, and is filming stuff there.

We'll shoot ideas back and forth about what Bree can do. If she's got ideas, feel free to throw em on the table. Smile

Right on, dude. I should have some stuff for ya by Monday. Have fun with Shenmue (if you can).

I mean I love Sega, but I don't know about that one.....
Splodge

Can't wait to see the Play View of Shenmue.
I tried the game once but didn't get into it. The controls really put me off (I was playing on Dreamcast. I'm not sure if they've improved that with later ports). Also in the first town, you pretty much have to talk to everyone to get anywhere and even then, alot of it doesn't make sense.

Still, It has alot of fans, so I'm sure it's pretty good when you get into it.
John Gibson

The Play View for Shenmue clocked in at over 40 minutes. I definitely need to trim it down somehow, otherwise, we'll be having 8 parts of it.

It was fun. Sure, the game was damn boring. Sat there for 40 minutes or more, just trying to figure out what the hell I'm doin. We were all fallin asleep.
John Gibson

We're done, tonight's the night. Yeah, watch, it'll be available 1 minute after midnight, so technically, it'll be August 22nd. I'm too excited to keep it until tomorrow night.

Watch this spot for the appropriate links. Everything, including site and forums should be up-to-date by tomorrow morning, to coincide with the new season.

Before you guys start asking host related questions, let me first say that Jason, Bree, and Matthew are still with the show. They're just not in this episode, but will be joining us soon. We all have assloads of content for Season 3, and can't wait to show ya.

Look for Episode 1 later on.

Lots of stuff here. Another long show, over 40 minutes. Enjoy!

Season 3 is 'bout to blow the casket lid of me wee g'mother's grave!

Ok, on a serious note: I love this episode, John. The attrack mode for Commander Keen shooke me to my bones as I played each episode of that game. Another one, which we can maybe do later, is Duke Nukem (2D!) of that same era?

The Shenmue PV made me want to stop watching this show. I have never played that dam game, nor will I ever even attempt to now that I've seen your "most excellent" PV of it! Damn, I think I have to either barf or commit SEPPUKU now.

I hope peeps like the Retro Gaming Expo interviews. First time I've ever done that sort of thing, so forgive me.

I'm going to search online for THE WIZARD movie right after I finish this post! Great review of it, John!

I'm interested to see folk's thoughts on the new logo. I like it! Smile

The review of Luigi's Mansion made me want to rent it....

I, for one, think this is a spectacular start to our 3rd Season! I'm looking forward to Jason, Matt and Bree on subsequent Episodes! I know I'm going to TRY to be involved a bit more! TeeHee.

Freakin' AWESOME ending...

Earl needs to show a little more skin.
John Gibson

We all know you're not talkin about Earl, buddy. Very Happy

But that's ok. Stay tuned for the next episode, Earl's Gone Wild. hehe

Seriously, the ending is still making me laugh.

VMT

I loved this episode.Another job well done John.
Matt you were great too.I am glad you guys are back with season 3.
Hey i liked the shirt that recycled gamer guy was wearing.
As for Shenmue i remember playing it for at least 3 hours. And i can safely tell you it doesn't get any better.

I especially hated the bit where you had a to get a job as a forklift driver.
The only redeeming bit in the whole game, was the part where you could go into a Sega arcade and play the old classics Hang-On and Space Harrier.

Even the Virtua fighter fighting mechanics in the game didn't win me over.
Actually i have never been a big fan of Virtua fighter anyway. The movements are too stiff for my liking.

Speaking of stiff ... Earl seemed a little to excited when viewing Bree's review.
I think he needs to remove his hard drive and replace it with a floppy....did i just go there?

But seriously.....that last bit would make Angel blush. And for a dead guy that's pretty impressive.

This episode was almost as fun as being spanked by a supermodel....well maybe not.Since i have been so naughty.
Splodge

Great Episode. I liked the new design (although it probably makes the old t-shirts obsolete).

As for bad games. It's definitely possible to have good memories of bad games. I have great memories of playing Strike Gunner on SNES (okay that's not a bad game but it's definitely a sub-par shooter) and there were alot of Commodore 64 games I couldn't even figure out.
Still, I don't think it's possible for me to enjoy playing a bad game these days. I can enjoy a bad movie or bad music but I can't enjoy playing a bad game. It's probably the interactivity - a game has to be fun for you to get anything out of it.

You got alot further in Shenmue than I did, and I spent at least an hour in that town talking to everybody. It was mostly the control scheme that put me off. I might have put more into it otherwise.
I do agree that gameplay is the most important part of a game. Still, I wouldn't complain about a game having a story. I do enjoy Metal Gear Solid, Paper Mario (N64 and Gamecube - I haven't tried Super Paper Mario yet) and other RPGs - and they're definitely story-centric games. Still, the gameplay is good in those games. (Also, I've just started a game of Okami, which has some lengthy cutscenes, but the game is good so that's okay).

LMAO! Let's just hope that Bree finds it cute, hehe. I already told Matthew about it, and it doesn't look like he's out for Earl's blood. He has yet to see the finished result.

You're right. Believe me, I gave this a lot of thought on changing the logo. I figured the only people who are wearing the shirts are...well..US.

Sometime down the line, we'll have Season 3 shirts, and probably posters, if anyone is interested.
mjj58

I have great memories also of alot of bad games.
Two of them being the empire strikes back and Yar's revenge on the 2600.
Black Flag NC

Nice!

First off, love the new logo and designs.

Matt's Retro Gaming Expo stuff was pretty freakin sweet. Did you pick up anything cool?

Shenmue is a VERY tedious game. I can see why it was groundbreaking and why a lot of folks dig it, but I just can't get into it. Plus, if you've got to invest 3 hours into a game before it gets good... somethings f#@king wrong!

The Wizard! Nice review, John. When's the last time anyone saw Fred Savage? Oh yeah, he's cutting my grass...

Back off, Earl!! LOL!!

Great show, John. Bree and I will be back next month for sure. Very Happy
Galaxy_Stranger

Oh - hell yeah - you need to take the video of the same clip and instead of Bree, put in a clip for each of everyone else.  So each episode features the clip of Earl drooling over someone different.

"Earls Gone Wild" - freaking DO IT!!!  You need to completely parody Girls Gone Wild using puppet robots!

Oh - I really liked the review graphics for "Keep It!", "Try It".  Link holdin up the NES cartridge and Mario handing one to Link worked out real well.
John Gibson

Also did a cool graphic for Toss It, but there were no "Toss It" games this episode. hehe
launchpad25

Great episode to kick off the third season! While i'm not too keen on changing the show's logo every so often, this logo looks really nice, and the new intros for each segment are very cool.

Your review of 'The Wizard' was pretty good. I have yet to see it, myself, but i'll probably get around to it eventually. The Nostalgia Critic's review of 'The Wizard', while spiteful, was very funny. Check it out some time.

As for bad games that gave me good memories, I'd have to say that the 'Ninja Turtles' game for the NES gets my vote. Sure, it was frustrating, and i've said that i prefer the arcade game over it, but you know what, i've had some good memories playing it regardless.

After watching Matt's little trip to the retro gaming expo, i'm intrigued to check one of these out. The problem is, i have yet to see on in western Pennsylvania. Still, if one ever does come to my neck of the woods, i'll definitely check it out.

As always, it's great to see D.U.K.E, and Earl, again. I like how he now has a crush on Bree. You think we'll see bree give Earl a kiss, and have him blast off into the sky like when Orko got a kiss from She-Ra?

Also, you think we'll also see Earl review a game in future episodes?

Overall, great show! Smile

Great episode to start of the 3rd season. We need alot more of earl, I smell an internet sensation with this guy. It would be pretty cool if he auditioned for VMTV and did some reviews and just totally let loose. Maybe a robotic version of the AVGN? haha idk. But great work

I do have an idea for Earl, involving "mysteries". I don't see him doing reviews, considering I do the voice. The character would make more observations than opinions. Remember the story-line.

As for him acting like AVGN, this isn't the first time someone suggested that to me. There's already enough imitators out there. lol

More viewing options. Megavideo has good quality. Might use that more.

LOL! I am sorry I have not been on in a while. I lost my password and could not figure out my username. My computer has it memorized, the library don't. Any how, I freakin loved this episode. Earl I am flattered.
John Gibson

It took forever to find that musical piece to use for that skit.

We can thank Stephanie for that one. Smile
