Terminator Salvation

What's everyone think about Terminator Salvation?

I'm really optimistic about it. Ever since I saw the first Terminator, I thought the flashback (flashforward?) sequences of the war in the future would make a decent movie themselves. I always wanted to see more.
Still it could go either way.

Reasons it could be bad:
- It's being directed by McG - the 'Charlie's Angels' guy.

- It could just be the backstory to the first movie - it's usually better not to see the backstory. The backstory is usual just for the writer - it's important for a writer to know the backstory of the characters and plot but it shouldn't be shown.

- Recasting of Characters. They've recast Kyle Reese and the T-800. Kyle Reese, I can understand. It's a younger version of the character from the first film. I doubt the original actor could pull it off. As for the T-800, somehow it kind of cheapens the film to have anyone other than Arnold Schwartzennegger play the role. Still, the new guy, Roland Kickinger, looks alot like him. There's also rumours that Schwartzennegger might do some voice work or CGI. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

- Less is more. In movies it's always better to give less. When editing a scene, it's better to cut in late and cut out early. Never give the audience enough because when you give them enough it's too much. (Like when you see too much of a monster in a horror movie).
That's kind of how it could be for this. The flashbacks in the earlier movies hinted at the future - gave you a little bit but left you wanting more. If they give you a whole movie about it, it could be too much.

Reasons it could be good:
- McG admits he's not the natural choice for the movie. He knows he's going to have to adapt his style for the franchise. He's done his research, talked to Schwartzennegger and James Cameron. He knows his responsibility.

- It's being written by Jonathon Nolan, writer of 'The Prestige' and 'The Dark Knight'.

- Christian Bale. Okay, actor's don't make movies but I think he's probably big enough to be able to choose his movies. He wouldn't agree to it unless it was a good script.

- They're not being too strict with continuity. They're not going to be tied down to established continuity. That might seem like a bad thing but really, it's a time-travel series so it makes sense for things being altered from what they were in the flashbacks.

Michael Biehn might be able to redo his part as Kyle Reese whitout his age being a problem as long as he doesn´t get that big a part.

Picture this scene They are standing in the time chamber John asks for a volunteer to go through the time and save his mother.

Kyle comes forward in equipment and everything (as seen in the movies, maybe a little more) and says that he will go.

John places an arm on Kyles shoulder saying that he knew he would.

Scene cuts next one we see John standing whit Reese (now naked and standing whit his back to the camera) residing the message he wants Reese to give to his mother.

Scene cuts next scene whit Kyle we see him walking into the machine and disappear in a white light.

Such short scenes and whit Micheal given some Make-up here and there to make him look more like his younger self from the first movie i think he would be able to pull it of whitout him looking all that much different then from what he did in the first movie.

At least not so much that it will break the illusion that all he did was travel back in time.

I can see that working.
But I have the feeling, they want to give the character a bigger part than that in the film, maybe even a co-starring role. I don't know how well it would hold up if he was onscreen for two hours.
