Specials

Ya know, the only good thing about this new job I have (so far) is that during its downtime, you really have time to think. What I've been thinking about are special G&G special segments I want to run, soon.

First on my list is a look at Spider-Man on TV, starting as far back as I remember, with the live action TV show (which not many people like), both 80's cartoons, the 60's cartoons, the 90's series (rather briefly), and the short film "The Green Goblin's Last Stand". We'll, of course, skip the CGI films, and I might bring in some Spectacular Spiderman footage (we'll see).

This is but one of many specials I'd like to do. Others include Ghostbusters, Hulk, and more to come. These specials may, and I stress, may, be lengthy, under 10 minutes, of course, but should be entertaining.

The Spider-Man special should air before 2009 is done.

Also thinking about Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman specials, and maybe a look at Nintendo cartoons, like Captain N, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros Super show, etc.

I'm not bothering with Street Fighter, or any others, cause Super Mario and Zelda are Nintendo property. Pretty much everything else is Capcom, and so forth.
Black Flag NC

Sounds cool. If you need footage of some Spidey or Hulk comics, I've got ya covered.

I've pretty much got the whole idea fleshed out for the Spider-Man special. It will feature, in no particular order:

The Live Action 70's Spidey
The 1981 solo series
Amazing Friends series
the 1960's spidey toon
1994 toon
The short film "The Green Goblin's Last Stand"
Spectacular Spider-Man
(briefly) the Japanese Spidey series

I'm doing this as a special because I'm not breaking this up into little 2 minute chunks every month. I want to have room for regular reviews as well.

My problem right now is whether to release this as a full 22-26 minute episode (assuming it runs that long), or just air it as a special, and for the remaining few minutes (say this special only lasts 18 minutes) fill that space with Mini Reviews and a Digital Dig or something.

I wouldn't want to give you guys a false sense of hope that I can start airing shows/specials every 2 weeks or something, though honestly, I would like to try to have more than 10 episodes air this season.

I know most of you would say do these specials separately from the show, even though these specials are Grumble & Glorify, which is part of the show. At first, I thought of putting these specials on DVD only, but that wouldn't be fair.

Lately, I've had so many good ideas for segments, but they seem lengthy, and breaking a segment up into 2 parts is ok, like the Rick Weis video, but not breaking Spider-Man up into 6 or 7 parts. That's 7 straight months of Spidey. All the other reviews for movies and TV shows would get pushed back into Season 5.

That's not right.

Over the next month, I'll put together the segment and see how long it runs, then I'll go from there.

I realize some of you may feel cheated if I devote an entire episode to just one feature. On the other hand, some of you may like it.

Do let me know. Show your support or displeasure, either here in this topic, or e-mail me.

Specials also in the works for the future:

Death Wish movies (all 5)
Ghostbusters (the lesser known versions)
Maybe a James Bond special. That'll fill a whole episode, or more, huh?

Actually, I was thinking today (after I bought Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) that I can do a DC Heroes special, which will include:

Batman: Gotham Knight
Green Lantern: First Flight
Wonder Woman
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

No clue when this will come out, considering I have yet to watch Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. Rest assured, it's coming.

You could also do a special covering cartoons based on video games. Not only would this include 'Mario', Zelda', or 'Captain N', but 'Saturday Supercade',  'Pac-Man', 'Mega Man', and the various 'Sonic' cartoons. Don't know if this include the many anima adaptations of games, but that  could be covered for a separate special later on if that's possible.

I would absolutely love to do those. I never got to watch Supercade as a kid. I think I might have seen bits and pieces of Pac-Man's Christmas. I used to watch the Mega Man cartoon, and two different versions of Sonic. I know there was a weekday cartoon, kind of cutesy, kiddie cartoon, and then there was the Saturday morning one, which was a bit darker. I remember Jaleel White (Urkel from Family Matters) did the voice for both versions, I think.

I'll try doing a search for some Saturday Supercade toons, though odds are they'll be poor quality VHS versions. Some people record these shows in EP, the lowest quality, and the tapes are so old that there ends up being minor to serious tracking problems.

This special could air sometime in 2010, if I get the videos I need.

Currently, I have Zelda on DVD, courtesy of Matt. I got the official Captain N DVD. I just need to get the Super Mario Super Show DVD.
