I'll wait till I hear more about it before I make any judgements but it seems very wrong.
I though the Sonic series was back on track, 'Sonic Unleashed' looks pretty good, but now I'm not so sure.

Clearly, this is the dumbest concept for a Sonic game I have EVER heard. Why would I want to play Sonic with a freakin sword? What happens when he runs too fast with the sword?

Could be worse....it could have been a gun.

Sometimes I hate Nintendo SO much.
"Hey, let's make Sonic into Link!"
More recycled horseshit from the big N.

Not that I favor one company over another, but I'm not so sure Nintendo is 100% to blame. I'm sure there are some messed up gamers out there who begged for this, same way they begged for Mega Man 9.
It's more about what the gamer wants, instead of what people feel like creating. Instead of original ideas (no, Sonic with a sword is not original), game developers just sit around reading chats and emails from the ADHD generation begging them for more sequels.
Next, we'll have Super Mario carrying an M-16, and wearin a bandana.
Mario: First Blood (Yes, I watched First Blood on DVD this weekend, hehe)

.... or a water-gun.

....filled with lead water and asbestos. Tee hee.
Mario is from New York, after all.

I wonder if Sonic will raise the sword, and say 'By The Power Of Greyskull'. But seriously, this is not a good idea. As innovative as the Wii is, i can see why third party developers aren't embracing it as much. At least 'Sonic Unleashed' looks like a real 'Sonic' game where you run fast. Here's an interesting article about the current consoles, and how they might be skating on thin ice. Particularly how the Wii is alienating hardcore gamers.
That's a great article, launchpad. I think's it's the most lack er video game generation I've ever seen and I've been gaming since the early 80's.
Maybe I'm just getting old, dude.

I agree that this generation is the worst one yet - well, for me at least. I know there's alot of people that dig whats out there and that's cool.
But for me, even though there are alot of games out there (and they are definitely made to a high quality), there's not alot that really interest me.
I used to be able to rely on Nintendo. I still can, they still make excellent games, but they're priorities have changed. Mario and Zelda have taken a back seat to Wii Fit and Wii Music. That's not a bad thing at all - I'm all for new game-types. I'm just not interested in those particular games.
On the other hand, it's easy to have twisted memories of the past.
In reality there were always at least 10 bad games for every good 1. A rental was always a gamble - you could end up with Super Metroid ... or you could end up with Bubsy. And alot of the time you couldn't trust the boxart to give you any clues.
Also, the worst thing was, that when you were real young, you would sit and play a bad game and not even realise that you had a choice to play something else.
I played far more Sonic Spinball, than I ever should and I hated the game. But I was a kid, so I kept playing it even though I hated it. Luckily by the time Sonic 3D had come along, I knew better and stopped playing by the time I got to the second Zone .... forever.
Anyway my point is, even though this generation seems bad, is it any worse than it ever was? There were about 1500 games on the SNES. Personally, I can only think of about 50-60 truly good games (probably alot more if I really thought about it but still a small proportion).

That is so true. As much as we admire the past, it wasn't always as rosy as we'd like to believe.
