For those on the east coast cowering under the covers because they can not afford to go to PAX, have I have an alternative for you. In Clifton, New Jersey (northern part of it) there is a store called Digital Press. This store is quite possibly the greatest video game store in America. It has every game you could possibly think of, from the Atari 2600, to the ZX Spectrum and a bunch of other systems that will surprise you (are those new vectrix games?), if you are into any old console this is the place to go.
However if you are going to visit the store make sure you attend NAVA, a monthly event where people who also like the games of old meet up to get their party on. First there is a swap meet where you sell games to other people who want games, or be like me and trade for them old school style. Then typically there is a Rock Band setup next to a retro console (this past month it was an intellavision with a home brew multicart). At 6 PM there is some tournament that takes place, now normally this involves the 2600 and the wizards of homebrew taking a game we all know and love, and making it hard as hell (I never knew River Raid can be designed so difficult), after it is all said and done, pizza is out, games are played and the beer drinking begins (or continues for some people) until the night comes to an end.
If you are anywhere on the East Coast (Mass, NY, PA, MD, NJ, VA,) you must come to this event. If you want some more details of the awesomeness of the event check the main site below and I hope to see some of you there on May 31st.
