While i enjoyed the classic 'Mega Man' games, I can understand how you feel about them being repetitive. At this point, it's kinda like a 'Scooby-Doo' episode. They find a monster, run for cover, come up with a trap, capture the monster, unmask him, the end, and continue to do the same old song & dance for the next 20 some odd shows, or movies. The same thing can be said about Mario to some extent, but at least Miyamoto tries new ideas to keep the series fresh. Even if it's a golf game, a racing game, or a baseball game.

Funny how we don't see a Super Mario Bros 9. I'm glad they changed it a bit by changing it to Mario World, Mario 64, Mario Galaxy, so forth. Likewise, the Zelda series wasn't really numbered (in the end, made the whole timeline confusing). There was Zelda, and Zelda 2. The third one, you never really saw a 3/III in the title. Guess they knew what path they were going to take the game, hehe.

Another franchise that's way past it's expiration date is 'Power Rangers'. Now i could never get into this show, but it never ceases to amaze me how many variations they can come up with to keep the dead horse alive for the past 15 years. Heck, i wouldn't be surprised if they made a barbershop quartet theme for the next iteration. This franchise should've died with the macarena, and any other worthless fad from the 90's.
John Gibson
ROFL, damn, you making me laugh at work. You tryin to get me fired, dude? HAHAHA
Yeah, seriously, Power Rangers was actually ok in the beginning. I plead guilty to watching a few episodes. Kinda reminded me of a live action Voltron, hehe.
Afterwards, I lost complete interest. I saw the movie (ugh), and know about Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo Jungle Force, Power Rangers Hyper Fighting, Power Rangers Animal Circus, Power Rangers Fashion Police, Power Rangers Queer Eye, on and on and on.
(Yes, I know not all of those series exist, and are made up. You think I remember every incarnation)
When did the last iteration come out? I think the franchise IS dead and buried, or am I wrong, and they got Power Rangers Sewer Surfers, or something?

Unfortunately, when Disney bought Fox Family Channel, and the Saban library, they continued to milk the franchise with a new series nearly every year. Right now, The Power Rangers currently air on what's called 'Jetix'. A lame action cartoon block on Toon Disney that's been taking over said network like a virus.
John Gibson
There's something else I've noticed. Networks that usually air 24 hours of cartoons are now airing movies between G-PG-13.
Someone explain to me why I would want to watch a live action movie on a CARTOON ONLY NETWORK?
In response to your rant on game reviews, i'd like to chime in for a bit. I usually take most game reviews with a grain of salt. While graphics are nice, most reviewers tend to forget that a game has to be fun in order to fully enjoy it. It's almost as if they've been spoiled by pretty graphics, and cut scenes since The Playstation came along. And some fanboys can get pretty rabid if their favorite franchise begins to falter. (I'm waiting for the 'Harry Potter' fanboys to go nuclear when tat series start to falter, myself . Heh, heh.) I also agree that some game franchises have way too many installments. A friend of mine says the same thing about movies, Nobody wants to come up with new, and original ideas anymore because they're scared to death that nobody will give them a chance. If they fail, the crawl in their fetal positions, suck on their thumbs like Prince John, and continue to churn out the same old crap again, and again. To Hollywood, 'originality' is a risk.

Speaking of Power Rangers, in the opening to Power Rangers SPD look very closely at the Yellow Ranger.
Anyway I agree with you John. I think there needs to be a certain line drawn, but I think people like Mega Man 9 is because it harkens back to the good old days of gaming when things were simpler, and it strikes that nostalgia chord that we all have.
John Gibson
I find it interesting that some people use Mega Man as their personal demon. I think it's the whole blasting robots, the concept of shooting.
I'm plenty nostalgic, but for the older games, not taking an old game character and bringing it back from the grave, as it were. That's pretty much what's happening. They're taking the 8-bit Mega Man and bringing it back from the grave.
ZGDK
I can see your point here John, personally I'd love to see a whole new game that's in 8-Bit, in fact Nintendo could make money by making new 8-Bit games, because there would be plenty of people that would want some nostalgia.
But Mega Man, WAY TOO MANY games. Every day it's like there's a new one.
John Gibson
I wouldn't mind seeing an 8-bit game myself, as long as it's not a sequel. A good example, is on a site called nesreproductions.com. Granted, some of these games are hacks of original games, but then there are some that were never released in the states.
You know what's holding promise these days, Zelda Classic. They're doing a lot with that program, even though lots of the games look more 16-bit.

I like to hear what you think of the Final Fantasy games and just for the sake of it, Final Fantasy 12 was the latest game in the series and 13 is coming up to PS3.
Now i called Final fantasy a series and thatīs a little wrong.
A series would imply that the different numbers is somehow connected they arenīt.
The strength of Final Fantasy was (until they began to make sequels) was the each game was a completely different universe and besides the shared names for some of the monsters you would fight or could summon to aid you, they had nothing what so ever in common.
John Gibson
I don't think much of the Final Fantasy series. We briefly discussed the 7th game back in 1997. I let someone else play it, cause I didn't know what the hell was goin on, and just went by information given to me.
The fact that they're on a 13th game says a lot, but not in a good way.

Mega Man Sequels
I never could get into the Mega Man or Mega Man X games. I did get the Mega Man X Command Mission for PS2 and it's decent. The first Mega Man Battle Network for GBA (Another RPG) was decent too. I don't know if the squels went ad nauseum, but I take the good from all the fluff.
About Power Rangers. I watched Gekiranger (Jungle Fury's Sentai counter part) and I loved the Japanese version better! In the US, they took away some really good plot points. They also introduced three Rangers that were not in the Japanese version!
Unfortunately today's market has made companies milk franchises. I read that at this years E3, Miyamoto mad his first ever mistake. We expected a new Zelda or Mario and he gave a demo of his newest game Wii Music (He also butchered the Super Mario theme too)!
Sorry to rant like this, but I agree, some franchises need to evolve. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Sonic have evolved. I know Mega Man tried to keep up (Remember Mega Man Legends?), but he churns out the sequels that are rehashes of Mega Man 2 to 8!
Looking forward to season 3. Keep up the good work!

I've never even played a Final Fantasy game, I'm not an RPG person at all.

Remind me to do a review of the FF games some time in the future.
