Look what I took a picture of? SyFy= FU

I just said to Steph (Gamergirl220) I gotta take a pic of this. It just disgusts me.
Talonluck

Agreed. It's just not right.
Erikjust

So they changed sci fie to SYFY ITS JUST TWO FUCKING LETTERS!!

Are they complete retards or something, if the American population is too stupid to reed Sci fi and thus need to have it changed to SYFY, well then then they deserve to have their population cut in half by some epidemic, because thatīs just too stupid.

So all in all i canīt see any reason what so ever to change a name from Sci Fie to SYFY it just isnīt that difficult a word to justify such a change.
John Gibson

They're changing it because it sounds (or is supposed to sound) hip.

Sci-Fi is NOT hip. Sci-Fi is what it is. Science Fiction, and it does not need this done to it where basically, it can be mispronounced as "Siff-E".

Americans already have limited intelligence. Can't spell, can't read, can't think for themselves. This just proves America is dumbing down even further.

One more reason for foreign countries to laugh so hard at Americans that they will fall out of their chairs.
John Gibson

As if SyFy wasn't enough, I walk into a store, and what soda do you think I see?

Not Mountain Dew, but Mtn Dew? Granted, don't care for the soda itself, but are you joking?

What are these people hoping to accomplish here? What's the angle? What's the purpose?

Someone help me out here..
Talonluck

Teens. They buy this stuff more than the adults. Texting is the rage these days so shorter names and slang is popular.
John Gibson

And it's lazy, which make up a good majority of Americans. Hey, I'm American, too.

How far will this go, though?
Talonluck

Far. I think this will continue as things become easier. Language has become dumbed down as opposed to more intelligent. People used to speak elegantly now they speak broken english and slang. This is only the beginning.
John Gibson

I used to hate it when my (former) in-laws used to say "Where's the remote at?"

I was living in Maryland back then, so a lot of folks, I guess, had relatives from the South, who brought this form of English over.

It bugs me that my kids could be talking like this 10 years from now.
GameLifeDave

Gosh, could idocracy be right that society will get so dumb as life goes on we'll have no idea what to do with garbage?
John Gibson

Aren't we there already?
StrifeDeliveries

Ya, wow.

I don't know what to possibly to say to that, it is um, the right word would be disturbing. Unfortunately that exact point is what I was writing a thesis on before my laptop went and decided to fry itself.....
But the underlying point is the degeneration of the modern American population between the ages of 13- 22 is astounding. I had a friend who had a girlfriend who was quite possibly the most unbelievable human alive..... She was graduating High School with a regular diploma and she thought that a Minotaur was a freaking Transformer...... Seriously, the minds of American youth are seriously nothing more they gray pudding...... 'Nuff said....

I was chatting with someone, and asked why they didn't fully type what they were saying, and they said 'so they can get the typing done faster'. Fortunately, they didn't take it as an insult, but It seems like an interesting way of furthering the destruction of our language through text messaging. I guess kids can read 'Harry Potter', or 'Twilight' with no troubles at all, but when they're asked to spell words like 'mountain', or 'science fiction', their brains would melt faster than a cheese sandwich in the microwave. Soon, people will start sounding like Doc Louis from 'Punch Out'.

I find it funny that English people are the worst offenders of "txt language." Have any of you seen some British internet chats? My God. It's horrible. And they like to make fun of Americans for not using the English language right.
John Gibson

Soon txt speak and leet speak will be a universal language. Soon, everyone will speak it, and if you speak regular English, BOOM!! Dead!

The British have every right to make fun of Americans. Look at what we're becoming.

And yet, Britain has just recently banned Michael Savage because of his own beliefs, but that's beside the point right now. I think this would make a good topic for a future episode, or even a future skit where video game characters start talking in text slang, and the ones who still speak proper english raise a fuss over it.

Well, I've seen the Syfy channel in action.

I fuckin hate it! It sounds like they changed the voiceover that accompanies ads for upcoming Sci-Fi....oops, I mean SyFy shows....ugh, now I'm gonna have to shower to wash away the evil and stupidity.

I guarantee that slowly (not right away, these crafty swines need to slip sneaky shit in over time), this channel will go the way of G4. Remember when G4 was 24 hour video games. Granted, I didn't stay up all day to see what was on. Some shows I didn't care for. Over time, we got Cops, and movies that don't suck, or whatever else we got, and soon G4 became crap.

To me, even though Syfy is a made up word, it still screams to me stupidity. Now we're making up words. First it was adding the letter Z to words like Pets, Dogs, Cats and so on. Now, we're making up new words to grab a totally different audience that doesn't really like smart Science Fiction shows. You barely see any classic science fiction movies. It's all Original movies, which are horrible.

Think about Cartoon Network. In the early to mid 90's, I loved Cartoon Network, loved how they would air old stuff, and new stuff. The majority was Hanna Barbera; Birdman, Space Ghost, Impossibles, Scooby Doo, etc.

One day, Cartoon Network started airing these shitty cartoons done in Flash, and showing live action movies. Hello? It's Cartoon Network, air that shit someplace else, like NickToons (Ha!).

Sooner or later, Syfy will split into 2 different channels, like Cartoon Network spawned Boomerang. I like Boomerang. I can watch Justice League, and Dynomutt: Dog Wonder on the same channel.

I forsee a Sci-Fi classic (or something along those lines) where the true Sci-Fi fans will tune into. You'll get classic Sci-Fi shows like Six Million Dollar Man, Twilight Zone, Incredible Hulk. Hell, air the shows that only lasted 10-12 episodes. You guys (Sci-Fi) used to do that with Spider-Man and Gemini Man. In addition to these classics, you can also catch regular shows, like Eureka and Ghost Hunters, cause it won't be long before shows like that are pulled from Syfy cause it's not hip enough for the dumbass audiences they're trying to get. Pretty much any show that has too much intelligence is going to be pulled, or aired after midnight or some ungodly hour of the morning, where you'll be forced to set your DVR or Tivo to record these programs.

Before I conclude, someone explain to me why the hell can we find Wrestling (ECW) on a Sci-Fi channel? Wrestling isn't science fiction. Just fiction.
