Idea I Just Had

This is an idea for the show that just hit me. Take the first classic game in a series and review it and then review the latest game in the series. Sort of like a then and now to show how the series has changed over time. Or something along those lines.

John, thought u would get a kick out of this

lol, I saw that the other day when I was looking for Mega Man pics for my first rant.

That's messed up, but probably a little too close to the truth. We better make sure no movie producer sees this.

Actually ZGDK, I did think about the idea a few months ago. I was thinking about our look at the Mr. Do games for the arcade and thought about looking at how a series has changed or remained the same over the years. Sometime in the beginning of Season 3, I'd like to look at, say, the F-Zero series (Super NES, N64, Gamecube, GBA, etc).

So, look for that soon. Smile

That's actually not a bad idea. Especially with ongoing franchises, but gaming gernes should be looked at, too.

After watching John's rant on 'past, and present', i'd like to offer my two cents. I may have said this before, but i have a friend who grew up with the Adam West 'Batman' show, and couldn't get into any other incarnation of Batman since 1989. He just couldn't accept the more dark, and serious Batman, but i would try to explain to him that Bob Cane originally created him that way. While many of us enjoyed the 60's 'Batman', we, as fans of the character, understand that Adam West's incarnation simply wouldn't fly today. I think what i'm trying to say is that some characters can be updated properly to stay fresh in people's minds while other characters are fine just the way they are.

Now i'd like to bring us an example of 'reinventing the wheel' that i thought was an utterly dreadful idea. 'Loonatics Unleashed'. When fans of Warner Bros. cartoons got wind of this new take on the classic 'Looney Tunes' characters as nuclear powered superheroes from the future, they were absolutely livid. And rightly so, because trying to make 'Looney Tunes' into some weird superhero/anime hybrid just doesn't work. Maybe if they did a short cartoon with Bugs & Daffy that poked fun at superheroes, and anime, that would've been fine, but 'Loonatics Unleashed"? That was totally uncalled for. Now Warner Bros. has tried to revive their comedy cartoons in the past with 'Tiny Toons', Animaniacs', ect, and they were just as funny as the classic cartoons in they're own way. 'Loonatics', however, was just a bad idea designed by committee in an attempt to pander to kids who watch junk like 'Pokemon', and 'Yu-Gi-Oh'.

Now, i'd like to add in another component to this topic. Special effects. While computer technology has greatly improved the way movies are made in the last 20, or so years, i'm starting to think that Hollywood has been relying on them as a crutch, and abuses the technique more often than not. Some effects can be pulled off without the aid of computers. While CGI can accomplish what might not be possible before, many of the things that made certain movies, and TV shows great get lost in the transition. (With very few exceptions.) This also brings up another concern of mine. Animation. When was the last time you saw an animated feature that looked like it was done with pencils, and paper? 'The Simpsons Movie' was the last 2D feature we've had, and i'd like to see more studios bring traditional animation back because not every animated film has to be in 3D.

The Adam West Batman, hasn't aged well at all. It's still a great show, and a testament of classic television, but watching it today after it's been drilled in our heads that Batman is a dark, brooding character it just doesn't work.

Personally I think CGI is good for certain things, but it shouldn't be taking the place of good old special effects. Animation, personally I think animation should go back to good old fashioned cell drawn animation, doing each little drawing over and over. Looks better that way.
