I miss the cheats (VMTV Edge)

Was thinking about this the other day. Still not sure why I pulled it off the regular format. No one really noticed, or asked for it back, whether we had classic or modern tips in there. A common complaint would be "Oh, we can get these cheats off the internet. Why do we need you to tell us?"

This is the internet. I could sit down write down and start typing up fake cheats for Mario Kart Wii, and submit them to some site like GameFAQ, or wherever people get their cheats from. Hell, we even debunked false cheats going as far back as November, 1997. There was a rumor going around that you can play as Luigi or Yoshi in Super Mario 64 (NOT the DS, Nintendo 64). So I decided to come on the show, and say "No, the rumors are false".

It helps to see the cheats being performed, in video format. Even audio is questionable sometimes.

So I'm seriously considering bringing back the cheats. No walkthroughs, or anything like that. Maybe it'll be full blown classic tips, I'm not sure yet. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

It's not the best idea, but you've sort of stumbled on an even better idea.

why don't you do something like "gaming myths debunked" you could do your own version of mythbusters where you demonstrate gaming urban myths as false, such as the play as luigi crap from mario 64?
John Gibson

The idea sounds good in theory, but it'll be hard to track down those types of myths.

What I will end up doing most likely is strictly classic game tips. The segment will not be designed as a helping tool, but more of a trip down memory lane. Bringing back the Contra/Konami code. I really don't want to mess with modern games, cause I think that's where the flak began. People telling me "I don't need these cheats, I just beat the game in 30 minutes, or 5 days, etc etc".

So the new cheats segment will only be focused on classic games (NES, Genesis, PC, TG-16, Gameboy, etc).

I know some won't like this. That's expected. Those who are behind this, show some love.

I dig it as long as it's classic stuff. As I've gotten older, I don't do much cheating.

I did cheat at Guitar Hero 2 last summer, cause I couldn't wait to play Freebird. Give me a break, I'm from the south.

Hell I chated on Guitar Hero III to unlock songs I couldn't get without playing co-op career mode.

I actually found out about some F-Zero X cheats through VMTV (or rather, the old show that came before VMTV). I don't normally search for cheats on the internet, so I just stumbled upon that and it was actually useful for me. I'm sure I'm not the only one like that. So that should show you that it can be useful to at least some percentage of your audience.

I'd welcome it back, myself.

I enjoy cheats very much on games that the gameplay SUCKS, but I'm interested in storyline, extras, etc. However, most game cheats can be easily searched for on the web.

I think that easter eggs work well because most people don't care to look for them so there is usable content there.
John Gibson

True, most people would just watch "Cheat" on G4 for cheats, but this will be strictly cheats to classic games (at least for now. I'm not going to corner myself again).

The cheat segment is meant more for nostalgia purposes, rather than say "Hey, we got a great trick for Super Mario World".

Think something like "The Konami code" and how it works for different games (Contra, Gradius III, Ninja Turtles II, etc).

Naturally, everyone knows those cheats, but it's cool to have them re-lived on video, rather than read it on some cheats website.
