GhostbustersI've been a huge Ghostbusters fan for a very long time. You can tell by how often I've discussed it in previous shows, and the most recent skit.
It occurs to me today I should do a segment on Ghostbusters through the years. It originally started in 1975 when Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker played "The Ghost Busters", along with a guy in a gorilla suit.
In 1984, the film came out. In 1986 "Ghostbusters" and "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoons aired.
So I think it's important to discuss this in a future episode.
I know a lot of you remember the movie and cartoon only.

Definitely a lip sync on that video. lol He's pullin a Milli Vanilli.
Just ordered "The Ghostbusters" Live action show from 1975 on DVD, and the animated spinoff from 1986.
I'm downloading the two movies, and may just look into "The Real Ghostbusters" DVD. We'll be pretty much covering Ghostbusters except for "Extreme Ghostbusters". It has nothing to do with what we'll be discussing.

Funny you should bring that up because i met Ernie Hudson at my local comicon two years ago. Margot Kidder was there, two if i recall. Anyways, you can't have a 'Ghostbusters' topic without bringing up it's roots as a 70's TV show from Filmation. Not alot of people know about the 70's 'Ghostbusters', but i'm sure they might have seen the '86 cartoon at some point.
Anyways, here's a fun fact. Arsinio Hall voiced Ernie Hudson's character, Winston in first few seasons of 'Real Ghostbusters', and Ernie Hudson did the voice of Cyborg on 'The Superpowers Team'. (The final incarnation of 'Superfriends') Of couse Bill Murray would go on to voice Garfield in the movies. I title once held by the late Lorenzo Music, who use to voice Murray's character, ironically.

I have heard of the 70's Ghostbusters show but I never got the chance to see any of it. I look forward to seeing some footage.
Are you sure the movies were based on it though. I heard that Columbia payed them to use the name, so they wouldn't be sued but that the actual idea was thought up independently of that show.
I'm no expert though.

This Wikipedia link says that during production, they found out about Filmation's show, and Columbia decided to come up with some alternative names for the movie if they weren't allowed to use 'Ghostbusters' as the title.
