I think the problem with a channel like G4 is that video games, despite their current popularity, and notoriety, are way too niche to support 24 hours of programing. That's why they've tried other types of programing in recent years. The way i see it, maybe a couple of shows that look at the gaming world could thrive on certain channels that might be interested. Shows like 'Judgment Day' would be great for the syndication market, and would be a breath of fresh air to the dreck that local stations currently air. Heck, i'd gladly watch a weekly version of 'Videomasters TV' on a local station. Unfortunately, with the mainstream media's fear of games thanks to the controversy of the 'Grand Theft Auto' series, programing that caters to gaming fans would have a much better chance thriving on the internet than in the media industrial complex.

To me the concept of G4 or any gaming show on television is imminently flawed, because the shows are controlled by big corporations that will naturally control the content of the program. I prefer to get my gaming news from independent sites like VMTV. G4 seems to think boobs=ratings.

Yeah, all you have to do is look at Attack of the Show. Why do you think people tune in?
The studio audience goes nuts if Olivia does something suggestive, like have Kevin touch her bum.

I agree. G4 has pretty much become a 'Spike TV' clone at this point, but then again, what did you expect from a channel owned by Comcast? (Which also owns 'E!'.)

A lot of networks copy off of someone else. A lot of people do the same. They find what's hot, and duplicate it.

Wow. I'm gonna sound like the odd man out here. But i love how g4 airs cops.
But overall, yea, the channel has turned to shit. They only credit I give them now a days is having some fine women on there.
But even during their E3 Conferences converages, it would end, they'd spend maybe 15 minutes talkin about it, with 8 being commercials, then they'd go to a shitty program like Puke, which frankly wants to make me puke.
I agree with the sentiment that no gaming channel will ever do well cause the mainstream view of video games is tainted by the news. Sure we all see GTA IV on the news for being a bad influence and the controversy surrounding it. But the public never gets to see great games like MGS 4.

Wonder what it was like when they decided to add Cops to the lineup.
Imagine your network is still all video games.
Coming up:
X-Play
Up Next:
Electric Playground
After that:
Cops (wait, huh?) at E3 (Ohhhhhhh)

Wow. Thats brilliant. An edition of cops at E3, capturing intruders lol.

Yeah, imagine E3 in LA, and having the LAPD in charge at E3.

G4 is to videogames what MTV is to music.
Corporate America trying to tell people what's "cool".

Boy, is that ever true! Most of what passes for 'cool' these days just doesn't do it for me.

It's interesting how everyone knows what's cool, and they base that on market research.
56% like this
10% like this, this and that.
34% do not like that, but like this.
How bout just making something that sounds good to you, and those who like it will watch, and those that don't will find something else.
Like I said, their only concern is making money. Making quality entertainment is second.

At least they no longer claim to be a gaming channel. They've long since dropped the "TV 4 Gamers" and "videogame television" slogans when they changed directions. They are what they are now, which is a channel aimed at a male demographic with a "geek lifestyle" (gaming, technology, boobies, Star Trek, weird Japanese shows, etc.) niche.
Unlike MTV, who still has "music television" under their logo but probably airs less than an hour of actual music per day.

Well, if your up at 4 am in the morning you can catch 2 hours of videos. But yeah......thats pretty much it. Hell, even one of their staple "music" shows, TRL decided not to show the entire videos anymore after a few years, it was just a 30 second clip they show. Thank god that tweenie dream is over. MTV needs to die a bad horrible death........unless they bring back Beavis and Butthead. Which in the most far fetched scenario....I would watch it.

Hey, good news. I hear that X-Play will be stripped down to 3 days a week, instead of 5. Gee, must mean they'll replace the show with COPS, or some other show.
Eh, just as well, don't care for X-Play, or COPS. I do watch X-Play just so I know what NOT to do on my show.

I actually like X-Play. I think the worst days are behind us with that show. It was great when it was Extended Play on TechTV. Then it switched to X-Play and became more eccentric which was all right with me, but then it moved to G4 after the merger and when G4 took over production it became too stupid for my tastes. But it's seen an uprising in my opinion after it changed format somewhat and became a more in-depth gaming show instead of just game reviews. So now we have game previews, reviews, hands-on segments with interviews from game creators, convention reports, etc. It's not bad.
Cops? lol. I don't need to watch that on G4. I can watch it on the 3209894378437834 other channels it's syndicated on.
