Fighting GamesOne of my favourites genres in gaming since i was very young. I like the competitive spirit that this games transmite.
My 1st contact with fighting games was at the arcades with Steet Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Then i had an epiphany when i 1st saw and played Virtua Fighter it was in 3D!
Then with the consoles i discovered Tekken, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur which i was really addicted playing it in my Dreamcast also the hundreds of crossovers like Capcom vs SNK or Marvel vs Capcom and 2D games like King of Fighters, Guilty Gear etc.
Looking at the current gen Virtua Fighter 5 (currently aviliable for PS3) coming soon for XBOX 360 looks awesome it seems that still has the best balanced gameplay system.

I'm trying to remember if my exposure to fighting games was Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. I actually do have Dead or Alive Ultimate for X-Box (possible review).
So you got your eye on VF5? If you pick it up, let us know how it is.

I had my DOA period in the late Dreamcast and Xbox i didn't try DOA 4 since i don't own an XBOX 360 either a PS3 to try VF5 but im an avid fan of the series. Oh and theres also a DVD with the episodes of VF anime that was recently released i think that i used to watch when i was a kid i don't have the DVD but you should really review it!
Talking about 3D fighting games this i think the best games are Soul Calibur 1 for the DC and Virtua Fighter (all of them) specially cause their balanced characters gameplay.
Tekken is more focused on the storyline, variaty of characters and fighting styles which makes it more attractive and the friendly easy to pick gameplay for casuals and DOA in the speed, the large and interactive stages and of course the boobs LOL
The VF unfortunatly is the least unpopular series in the west (in Japan still rules) however it still have a small community that i recently found on the net http://virtuafighter.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm it's a pretty small community but it's worth it if you wanna start with something

Can't forget the boobies, man. I imagine when VF 5 comes out, it'll draw a good audience to play it, even the people who have never been exposed to the franchise before. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is my favorite fighting game. I've got a hacked version for my Dreamcast as it was impossible to find legally.

First for me was Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition for my Genesis. I even had the 6 button controller for the Genesis which was godlike.

I also had street fighter 2 special championship edition for the genesis. With the 6 button controller.I thought it was great. But the audio on the super nintendo version of the game was alot better.Actually the audio in general on the genesis was awful.
I also remember picking up eternal champions. It was supposed to be the "street fighter killer".It even included instant death sections on some levels. But the game was not only hard. But bad all together.
My all time favorite fighting games are the street fighter series. And Mortal Kombat 1.I never liked MK2,3,4,5,100,102....even the the 3d versions were shocking.
I don't care how good the game might look in 3d...if your characters move like they have a stick up their butts then i will give it a miss.

Yeah, funny how Street Fighters audio on the Genesis was all garbled. The audio wasn't so perfect on the Mortal Kombat game, but they did offer blood in the Genesis. If I remember correctly, there was a secret blood code for the SNES version.

If i remember correctly...the only way you could change the "sweat" to the color of blood in MK1 was to use an action replay cheat device.
But if you have an snes emulator you can play a hacked rom with the blood cheat already in it.
Speaking of snes games....i really liked super punch-out.Anybody else like it?.

Got it for my birthday in 94. At some point, sold it, but beat it already. That was our second review in the very very first episode of Video Masters.

Blood code for Genesis, I know it by heart. ABACABB. Played the heck out of it at a friends back then.

Hmm, maybe I'm thinking of that. I'll have to look it up. Used to have a Mortal Kombat book around here somewhere that had all these cheats. I'd love to discuss how the SNES version of MK wasn't a big seller because there's no blood. There's sweat...or maybe it's Apple Juice.
