Doctor Who

Anyone else been watching this?

I've started watching the new shows over the past couple of weeks (Just coming up on the end of series 1 now) and so far I'm really impressed.

I always liked the idea of Doctor Who but the old show seemed a little too family-friendly and there were always way too many characters for me to care about (and they never hung around for long). I've seen a handful of Dalek episodes from the old series and not much more than that.
It was a good show but I never really got into it. But I do really like this new show. It's a pretty good reinvention / continuation of the series.

I'm trying to learn French so I've been watching it in French. So really, I only understand about half of what's going on (enough to get the idea of the stories) but even then, it's entertaining. I'm definitely going to go back and watch this first series in English (or learn to understand French better).

So far series 1 is awesome but I'm a bit worried about moving on past that.
In this first series, the Doctor is played by Christopher Eccleston (he was in 'The Second Coming', he played the invisible guy in 'Heroes' and he's been in a lot of other things).
What I like about him is that he's fairly different from the classic style Doctor Who - he's nothing like Tom Baker or the others (no scarf!). I think partly because of that casting the show became a lot more darker ('Dalek' had some really dark moments - 'Vous auriez fait un bon Dalek').

I'm worried about continuing with the series because of David Tennant. He seems too much like a classic Doctor and it looks like the show became way too popular and mainstream in the later years. I'm a little worried that they dumbed it down again and made it too family-friendly.

I think the BBC had complaints that 'Dalek' was too dark / violent. But it wasn't dark enough for me. I'd really like a hardcore dark sci-fi Doctor Who show

I'll definitely keep watching, though. If it's in any way a good sci-fi show, I'll definitely enjoy it. The BBC hasn't put out a lot of sci-fi in the last ten or twenty years (besides Red Dwarf, I guess).

Ohh yes i always loved Doctor Who thought about doing a video review of the series one Doctor at the time.

Unfortunately you canīt see anything with that old piece of trash i call a webcam and just doing an audio show would be a little boring.

(and i donīt know if Windows Movie Make could do it)

As for Tennant Well there are some kiddy friendly episodes but then again there is also so good episodes here and there where he really shows that the doctor isnīt all smile and joy and a few jokes here and there.

So i would say watch all of the seasons with Tennant and if you donīt like him well take a look at this then:

Who is it, thats the 26-year-old Matt Smith, who will replace regenerate into the 11th Doctor at the beginning of the year 2010.

So he will be the youngest actor to ever play The Doctor i look forward to see what he is capable of and what he will make of the part.

As for Doctor who not being dark enough or too kiddy friendly well they did go towards being more dark with Colin Baker and Sylwester McCoy. Originally Colin Baker wouldnīt have chosen the suit he whore as the 6th doctor rather he would have dressed the Doctor in dark velvet to illustrate his darker personality.
Unfortunately that wasnīt something the BBC was to fond of. Later though McCoy was able to introduce a more dark personality well the result we all know, the show got channeled.

Though if you REALLY want it dark and sometimes gritty i would recommend Big Finish audio plays, so far we have the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Doctor Who actors reprising their role as the Doctor.

And some of those episodes are NOT kiddy friendly at all.

One episode is called spare parts which explains the origin of the cybermen another one called Live 34 is quite dark its done like a news broadcast that tells of a planet where the system is CORRUPT as hell and it reminds a lot of Nazi Germany with people diapering in the middle of the night the murders of families covered up and so forth.

So yes its QUITE dark.
