Death RaceWith video games constantly under the magnifying glass of mainstream America, people tend to forget that violence did exist in games before 'Mortal Kombat' showed up. (Remember when General Custer was raping Pocahontas?) 'Death Race', made in 1976, was a two player racing game where you run over 'gremlins' to score points. While the game may look primitive to modern gamers, this game actually caused some controversy at the time. Ironically, in the mist of it's 'publicity', 'Death Race' jump started the arcade industry, which was still trying to find it's place. These days, it's easy to forget history when an old controversy comes back in a new flavor, but the gaming industry owes a great debt to 'Death Race' for at least garnering some notoriety. even if it was unfavorable.
