Classic Video Game Awards show

Yes, I'm referring to the Awards show on Spike last night. Before you start questioning why this is posted in the Classic Gaming section, give me a minute to explain.

I was all cozy and comfortable watching the awards, giving the occasional grunt and sigh every time Halo 3 won an award, plus I cannot understand why Wii Sports did not win "Most Addictive game". It occurred to me last night that "When was the last time or any time an award show aired honoring the best classic games?"

For me, it's never. Not once have I seen any show, cable TV, network TV, internet, anything that gave awards to classic games.

So it gave me an idea, now those of you who don't like it when I mention my show, stop right here.

Sometime in 2008, I would like to put together a "Classic Video Game Awards" show for Video Masters TV. What I would like to do, and perhaps see if I can find some other classic gaming forums to post this on, is ask all the classic gaming enthusiasts to vote on categories. It's not going to be something stupid like "Best pixelated boobies in a computer game" or anything like that. It will be normal categories, but I have to think more about the format. No sense in ripping off other award shows.

I do hope I get as much support as possible, though I can see why some of you would ask "Why put together an awards show about classic gaming?". The answer (among many) is because no one else has, or will. Video Masters TV is meant to bring awareness of classic games to people who love the games, as well as people who never knew these games existed.

I think this awards show idea will work. If this idea intrigues you guys, feel free to submit your own categories, if you wish. Suggestions are always welcome, so this awards show doesn't look like a joke, or the circus that was the Spike awards. Instead of envelopes with the winners, it was spray painted models with the winners tattooed all over themselves. C'mon!

Hope this will help contribute to the classic gaming scene, as I have done what I can over the last year to be a big supporter (I still have a ways to go).

Thanks everyone!

If this will give give older games their due, it's definitely worth a shot. We live in a world where the latest fads, or cultural trends get all the accolades, and whatever came before them never get the recognition they deserve for setting the standards of what we see today just so they could squander them. Let's face it. The ADD media dosen't care about what happened five seconds ago, let alone five years as far as innovation is concerned. They have no rear view mirror, but will gladly follow some starlet's rear if you know what i mean

HAHA, ADD Media. I love it! I love that last sentence, dude. Brilliant!!!

I think this is a good idea. Will you break down the catagories into 8-bit, 16-bit, and so on? Like best rpg on SNES or Genesis? Best shooter on NES or Master System? You're right, it would be a good way for the youngsters to see some of the best stuff on the classsic systems.

Great Idea!

I must of missed this posting (I would love to sit for hours a day typing in the forum, but my responsibilities won't write themselves.). I think I mentioned an idea like that and I didn't know you already thought of it! I think best (and worst) peripheral should be given. I mean the NES Power Pad was innovative in it's time. Who can forget Robbie? I know he only played two crappy games, but he was a nice bookend and he held your drink for you!

I do have a suggestion for best creator of a video game series. I think Lord British (Richard Garriott). If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have Final Fantasy! Note: He created Ultima.
