Cambodian sex tour, quite an interesting documentary
Yesterday I saw a documentary from Dateline called Cambodian sex tour Children for sale.
I was in all its simplicity about young girls down to the age of 4 and 5 being sold off to sex, and western people both European and American, though the program concentrated mostly on Americans(never found out why though).
What found interesting about this documentary, is that all though it was condemning, of the fact that young girls where being sold to sex.
It also tried to find out why, and commented on that one too.
One of the main reasons for this sex traffic (the others being that many of the girls are either being tricked or kidnapped), are that the annual pay for the average family was below 300 dollars a year, thats about 25 dollars a month 0, 81 dollars a day.
When taking such things into consideration, no wonder prostitution is rich down there, especially when you take it that a young girl can sell her virginity for around 600 dollars, and then after that claiming 50 to 60 dollars for sex.
The program then also evolved around what was being done to stop this trade, a thing that isnīt as easy as it sounds especially taking into consideration that many cops down there are extremely corrupted, they can have sex whit any young girl that they like and all they have to do is to warn the pimps of any raids the police is conducted towards them.
To illustrate the fact the crew that went undercover filmed a cup whit a hidden camera, saying that for a 120 dollars he could make sure that you wouldnīt be caught, he was later arrested towards the end of the program.
They later showed a successful raid being conducted where quite a lot of pimps where being caught and children saved.
Now what I liked about the is the detail they went in, lots of documentaries make a fuzzy detail around the problem at best, this program really went into the dept right down to the fact that you could ask a cap driver where to find young girls and he would show it to you.
They also interviewed an American doctor, who when filmed whit a hidden camera (that he didnīt know about and of course denied all knowledge off later), was only far too happy to tell all about how you could be an American and get away whit it.
They even filmed many girls in the middle of work (though not having sex or anything like that just where they lived and such)
Now some of you might ask why, Isnīt that like giving a guide on how to rape a small girl and get away whit it?
Well I think such details are needed to create a good picture of how reality really is down there.
Also because I think it is easy for us who was born not missing anything, and sitting whit our 5000$ computer and well feed saying we despise this and they really should do something about it.
I think we sometimes forget that when you are living below the absolute existing minimum, your choices are actually quite limited.
So if selling your 5 year old daughter to prostitution, make it possible for you and the rest of your family to survive, then that is what you will most likely do.
Saying that I should just quickly insert that I donīt in anyway condole it in anyway, but I do understand their choices from an external viewpoint.
But back at the documentary, I clearly think it is a program worth watching and if nothing else then because it is quite well done, compared to many other documentaries.
