Big Apple Con 2009- I GOTTA GO!!!

http://www.wizardworld.com/guests-apple.html

Just LOOK at ALL these people, folks!

This may be the largest turnout, assuming 2/3 of the people show up.

I would like to interview some of these people, though if there's a specific question, or person you would like on the show, post here, and I'll see what I can do.

Considering the popularity of VMTV (*chuckles*), we might not get a chance to talk to these people, just wave at them, heh.

Still, the idea of meeting some of these folks is getting me excited. The more I'm seeing, the more pumped I'm getting.

I gotta remember to request some days off for this one. I might go all three days.

And let's not forget, Matt Rau went to the San Diego Comic Con, so we gotta air that. I might just do a Comic Con special, combining both conventions together.

We'll see what happens.

Joe Kubert rocks! Joe Quesada, Ernie Hudson, Nichelle Nichols, Willem Dafoe, Robert Patrick, Lou Ferigno, plus a fellow North Carolina native Ric Flair. I met a lot of those wrestlers when I was a kid. They're all super nice guys. Ric Flair gives a lot of money to charity back in NC.

I have a comic signed by Joe Quesada. I thought his work on Daredevil a few years back was the best since Frank Miller had it. Billy Tucci is good, too. Lots of good sports legends, too. Except Pete Rose, fuck him.

That is a big ass convention, dude.

Two people on top of my list is Gil Gerard and Erin Gray from the Buck Rogers TV show. I sincerely hope they agree to an interview, or to even answer the "Hero" question. That's going to be my plan B from now on.

Anytime, a celebrity doesn't agree to an interview, I'll bring on the "hero" question, like I did last year.
John Gibson

It's official. I now have press credentials for this years con.

Sweeeeeet!
Black Flag NC

Dude, this is gonna be so fuggin' awesome! I bought an issue of Wizard for the first time in almost a decade and there was page after page of ads for this con. Wish Bree and I could come be your wingman (and woman) on this!

Yeah, we should have planned another day to hang out. Too bad it's such short notice. I had just asked for Saturday off from work just to go to this gig, rain or shine.

I don't want to miss this. It's too big.

Jason's goin, but he'll be traveling with some friends, and his fiance, which is too bad. This would be a cool event to tag team.

He and I have not been on camera together since 1998.
John Gibson

Well, I went. Lots of cool stuff took place. All of which will be discussed in the Comic Con special, which will air during the second week of November.

Yay!

Look who I ran into at the Comic Con.

My heroes, Ito and John D of Retroware TV (www.retrowaretv.com)

Comic Con story later.

Ok, it's later. Here's the story.

Got up at 6am. I did an equipment check. Camera, digital recorder, at least 3 DV tapes, batteries fresh, and fully charged.

I arrive at Pier 94, which is West 55th and 12th Ave just a little after 10am, and what a line, and this was the line to stand on if you ALREADY paid for your admission. I was on that line halfway through before one of the volunteers actually shouted that out, so I got off the line, and went to Pier 92.

Upon entering, you see that it's pretty empty. Not a lot of people are on line for "Advance Tickets, regular admission, or even Press".

Press was the first place I stopped. There were only two guys on line. As one of them turns to the side, I notice something. I walk up to them, my head is the first thing to pop into their view.

"Holy crap, you're John D, and Ito. Hey!!"

Ito, known as Lance outside the show recognizes me as "Video Masters TV". hehe. I think John was giving me the "Who is this guy" look.

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see these fellas. While I can't quite remember how I was exposed to Retroware TV, I can say this it is the most intelligent internet show about gaming out there. These guys share a place with Shane Monroe of Retro Gaming Radio, as well as Little Miss Gamer, Still Gaming, and the Game Den. They're all my heroes. And I've met them all, with the exception of Shane.

So once they got their Press credentials, they went their way, and I went up to get my creds, upon a quick phone call to Stephanie saying "Guess who I'm on line with?" I was honored to get my press band, and even a badge to pin on my VMTV shirt. There are still two little holes in the shirt. Doh!

I then headed to pay for admission, even though I thought to myself I could walk out of here without that, but what if you're required to show your ticket wristband.

As it turns out, Press do not need to pay admission. There went $40. I'm still trying to get ahold of some gal from the con to arrange some kind of refund.

Before even filming, I walked around the Con for a while, so I know where everything is. Games, celebrities, comics, vendors, etc. Jason, his fiance, and another couple arrived after 12pm. Parking was apparently difficult. So with Jason around, I was able to get a few interviews, and we both did some funny gags for the show, which you will see in our Comic Con special due out in November.

Even though part of my mission at these conventions is to prove that celebs are just like us, only with more zeros in their paycheck, I still get nervous when it comes to approaching them, whether or not I grew up with watching them as a kid, for instance, Lou Ferrigno. I met him once before in 2001, so I wasn't expecting him to remember me. Adam West was there, so many others.

I'll get back to more of my day, but first, a little dinner. Consider this part 1 of the Con.
