28 video games being made into movies... Will they suck?

http://www.examiner.com/x-578-Vid...g-made-into-movies-will-they-suck

....................Some of these games DOES have a quite a decent story that may work in their favor and since the guy that created Metal Gear is also writing the screen play.

Well there is a REMOTE chance that there will be one or two of the movies that might actually work.

Though for the others i would say they are doomed to be amongst the movies that most people, never wanted to be made in the first place.

Kojima writing Metal Gear Solid could go either way. He is probably capable of writing a good script but I think he probably has a problem editing himself - the story would probably be overly long and complicated, without much focus.
Interestingly David Hayter, the voice of Snake, is actually a pretty good screenwriter. he had an idea for an MGS movie but didn't really get any support for it.

Out of the other games on that list, the only one that stood out as a good idea was Earthworm Jim. If they treated it as a wacky comedy, a parody of superheroes like the cartoon was, it could work out. I don't have much hope though.

In an ideal world, I think Castlevania, Bioshock and maybe Street Fighter could be good movies. Unfortunately in this world I don't think so (especially Street Fighter which looks awful).

I'm sorry. There's absolutely nothing on this list that I would express any interest in seeing.

Can you really make a movie out of Halo??? Come on!

So, where's a Legend of Zelda movie? How about Metroid? Even though CGI will have to be employed here, I'd be willing to see these movies, if done right.

Let's not have another Super Mario Bros.

That's exactly what I was thinking, man! I don't know if I could stand any "riveting" dialogue like Mr Kojima cooked up for MGS2.

As long as it's done in animation (preferably 2D) I might check it out.

If another 'Mario' movie ever gets made, it should be animated this time.

I would love to see a good Zelda or a Metroid movie but even then I think it would be very difficult. Metroid is very gameplay based and very much about the physical experience.
I don't think any movie could ever capture the isolation of Metroid. Even the the 2D Metroid games were completely immersive and lonely. I'd love to see it done right but there's never been a movie like that, so it's hard to imagine it being done. It would have to be very quiet (almost no dialogue) and use the exploration and environment to tell the story. That wouldn't be very commercial so I don't think it will be done that way.

I think the best movies will come from games with very basic gameplay elements and more narrative story, like Text Adventures or SCUMM games.
I personally would love to see a well-done Monkey Island movie. It could work either animated or Live-action, so long as they captured the humour and character of that series.

A Full Throttle movie would actually rock!!

If done right, that is.

Not many folks remember Full Throttle. They'd probably screw it up anyway.
