Some of you probably know by now, a leaked version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine is floating around the internet. This is an unfinished bootleg that is DVD quality. That's right. No cam work. Clean quality.
How do I know this? Well, cause I just watched it. I really don't see how this leaked copy will "hurt" the industry, like they say it will. I'm sure people will still want to see it, or not see it, depending on if they want to, or not.
I'm getting tired of hearing that, by downloading movies, or buying unofficial bootlegs on the streets, that we're responsible for bringing down the film industry, and we're insulting the actors/directors/producers hard work in some way.
Trust me, if a film on bootleg turns out to be good, no one really gets injured. The actors get paid, the film still makes money, period.
Don't go telling us that because of piracy, (Fill in actors name here) can't afford to buy that 80 billion dollar house.

As far as finished movies go you could be right. If a movie's good, people will go see it, even if they've pirated it.
But this is an unfinished movie - this version is months old and they were forced to do major reshooting and re-editing based on this version.
The bad reviews based on this workprint could hurt the final film's release regardless of how good the finished product is. Even if the final film is good, this edit is not that good.
I don't think this will hurt the film's release that much but I am sure it will convince at least a few thousand people not to go see it when it comes out. _________________ http://www.what-song.net http://www.rogershanks.com

Dunno if a bad review could hurt a workprint. Anyone who reviews a workprint, and not the final version, is basically an idiot. In regards to the Wolverine film, there are lots of FX shots missing (which when you look at it, is actually funny. I laughed my ass off at some of the unfinished shots).
Would I review it myself? Absolutely not. Should anyone else review it? No! Wait for the damn final version.
I think the workprint is a cool way of seeing the film before its release. You never know, more people may see the film because of it.

I do agree with that. Every stage of editing is important. A film is never truly good until it's a finished product.
But the truth is that there are people out there reviewing the workprint (not necessarily official reviews but plenty of people are giving their final comments on the film in message boards etc.).
Like I say, I don't think this will affect things. Even if hundreds of thousands of people have downloaded it, the truth is that most of the general public probably don't know about it or where to find it - even if my parents think they're computer-literate, they wouldn't know the first place to look for these kinds of things. And I think that's the same for the majority of people. _________________ http://www.what-song.net http://www.rogershanks.com
I'm getting sick, and tired of Hollywood treating the rest of us like criminals every time someone gets a movie illegally because they're so paranoid of losing potential sales on said movies that they can't find the actual perps! Look, Hollywood, if someone is downloading, or bootlegging movies, go after them! Don't make us suffer through another worthless propaganda piece on how bootlegging, and pirating is worse than killing puppies! That kind of crap actually makes people consider pirating, ironically! I also agree that celebrities need to stop complaining about how 'piracy' is cutting in on their profits! They already make more money than we'll ever see in our lifetimes, so what are they complaining about?!?
Just last week, an email had arrived saying FOX was aware we were downloading the X-Men movie.
Ooooh, so what's their course of action? Cease and Desist? Send some guy in a suit to my house to smash my computer with a sledgehammer?
I'll be arrested for basically watching a film?? Come on. I'm not distributing it. As I said, no one is getting hurt (financially), cause I'm not reviewing it, or trashing it, or whatever. _________________ John R. Gibson

So Fox was watching the bittorrents for who was downloading, crazy. There were too many doing it so there was no way they could go after everyone. Also if you downloaded via a torrent then you were more or less distributing it unless you turned sharing off and were solely leaching.
