Posted: Mar 28 2006 4:06 pm Post subject: What was your first and last Video Game System?
This feature may show up in the next show. I thought it'd be interesting to find out what your first video game system was, and what was your last?
Give you an example.
My first game system is actually a mystery. I first started with an Odyssey 2, an Atari 2600, and a Colecovision. Dunno which we got first, but I imagine the Odyssey.
The last system was the Gamecube. it was a birthday gift. I had no interest to play any other console, be it X-Box, or whatever else. I've been following most Nintendo characters for years, and was curious to see what they can do with the technology. Ok, I've seen it, and have had my fun. I see now that games are becoming too realistic, and too fancy, so I stopped after Gamecube, and haven't gotten a new game or system since.
What about you guys?
Did you start with an Intellivision and end with a PSP? Start with Nintendo 8 bit, and end with 16 bit SNES?

I once started with a 2600 in '83 or something. Joust and super mario (or what was is called again) are great. You have this update version of mario on the gba (bump the floors and flip over the turtles, remember?) No! I started with a vic 16! Skiing and stuf (can't remember anything more besides that game) Moved on to a "toaster" (nes) tried some sega but the games were all the same (walk left to right and kick baddies, yawn....) Mario was better of course Had (and i regret the "had" part) a snes. Best system overall actually. Contra! You gotta love it! An Amiga also. With GODS, Zool, harlequin,... great. Then a while later i bought a pc (pentium 1 100 mhz, woow!) You can't call it a console but i sure loved quake an tomb raider. Man did i love Tomb raider. One of the first 3d games. It wa sheer heaven! The atmosfear the sounds, wouw! The next installments were crap but if the Tombraider legends gets good reviews then i'll get it for sure. Next a ps1 but
that didn't turn out so good. I actually think 3d is a dimension too many. And the complication of games is shit too. Have a ps2 and xbox now and i mostly i
like playing old 2d games, point 'n' clikkers and rpg's. Downloaded a shitload
of roms and emulators so i'm good for a few years...
Emulators will be around for a damn long time. Long after the X-Box's, the PS2's, and even the Gamecube's have died, and are reduced to $50 systems, Classic games will make a comeback. No remakes, or ports. I guarantee you in the future, you could walk into a Gamestop, or EB store, and you might just see a Colecovision box on the shelf with a Donkey Kong pack in game. No revamped box, the original. Standing next to it are all the accessories, peripherals, etc.
You wait and see, it'll happen. Give it about 20 years or less. _________________ John R. Gibson

I actually doubt that after we died generation gimme is going to pick up joust or smb i'm afraid. But who knows? Maybe someday they'll see that gaming isn't all about graphics. Or maybe they'll be just like us, playing the games that they grew up with and have made a big impact on them. Imagine; your son hosting vmr and reviewing halo 8. Scary...
Btw halo sucked ass, i got sick of all the corridor crap after a while. Don't like
GTA (and so called clones) either. All the useless violence! But then again i'm more kind of a "make love not war " guy.
I too like to make peace, not war. I'm not big on war of any kind, but hand me a controller that enables me to blow up zombies, demons, and so forth, and I will go ballistic with a BFG 9000, but I won't be inspired to join any army or military. I think playing games of a violent nature, or has something where you can maybe beat the crap out of someone is a good way to vent your anger and frustration. Think of it as an alternative to punching your pillow. Refer to my review of Rocky for the Gamecube. Just beating up Mr.T and the soviet dude felt damn good. It was a relief to let some of that out. I don't think it'll work for everyone, but.... _________________ John R. Gibson

Let's see if I can remember the order...
(1993) Gameboy (new)
Atari 2600
(1995)SNES (new)
Game.COM pocket pro (new)
(1998) PC #1
(2000?) Sega Genesis
GameGear
NES
Atari 2600 ('mini-deck')
PC #2
NES (deck 2, sold off; not smart in doing so)
N64 (sold off sometime later)
GBA
(2005) PC #3
(2006) Dreamcast
been gaming in some way for 15 years now. It's pretty safe to say that the very first game I've played was Sonic 1 for the Genesis when it first came out. Walmart had a multi-cart Genesis kiosk, so I played around with it and was drawn to it. It wouldn't be till over 10 years later till I bought it. (lol) _________________ I'll think of something witty to say sometime...
Nice!! It's funny, when we first got the Genesis and Sonic, I kept hitting reset just to hear "Sega". Before we even played the game, we were like "Hey, come in here, listen!" "Sega" "Wow, cool" _________________ John R. Gibson

Never owned a Dreamcast. Played on one, though. I was planning on reviewing the Spider-Man game for the Dreamcast, even though I had the Playstation version. One of the things I immediately noticed is that there's more detail in the DC version. You can see the webbing on Spidey's suit.
If I can ever win a Dreamcast auction on Ebay, I wouldn't mind reviewing a game or two on the show. That and X-Box 360 I would like to cover next. _________________ John R. Gibson

Ya i have both versions and the DC one is by far better is definetly a Keep It! It's more based on the TV series. Not to be confused with the Spiderman's PS2, Xbox and Gamecube which is based on the movie.
About the Dreamcast it's a must buy! Never a gaming system gave that much in so short time in the market NEVER! It's a really cult gaming system once you buy it you MUST KEEP IT! No kidding.
family first system? atari 2600 or atari computer, whichever one was first, i dunno. then sega master system, then NES. my personal first system was Gameboy, and now i personally own a DS and Gamegear. Family has a Wii. Nintendo fan 4 life.
