It looks pretty good and so far it's getting around 9s in reviews. Capcom have been very consistant (quality-wise) these days. Almost all of their recent games have been really good.

I like fighting games but Street Fighter is the only one I've really gotten deeply into. I never liked Mortal Kombat and I haven't spent enough time with most other fighters to get into them (I do like King of the Fighters though) but I'm really looking forward to this.

It looks like a solid installment in the series. I just hope they don't milk it as much as Street Fighter II with constant updates.

GameStop is having a competition on Saturday. It's just a mini-tournament that's open to anyone. I'm going to take part in that. In Street Figher II, I'm probably an above-average Ryu player (I know picking Ryu makes me boring) but not to a high-level.

Hopefully my SFII skills still apply and hopefully the competition isn't too tough (it is open to everyone, not just masters). I don't need to win it but I don't want to completely embarass myself. I'd like to win a few rounds anyway.

Maybe this summer, we'll get one. Not sure after yours and Splodge 360 horror stories. I would hope they'd become more reliable as this console gen wears on.

Yeah, cause even if I had the money to spend, I would still be hesitant to get one, unless they come out with an X-Box 720 where you can play your "old" 360 games on it, and the red ring does not exist (they'll be some new problem).

Eh, Microsoft will most likely fail, same way they did with Windows Vista. Slow ass piece of shit.

I may be a purist when it comes to 'Street Fighter's 2D roots, but I gotta say, 'Street Fighter 4' looks really good. Probably the best that 'Street Fighter' has ever looked in 3D.

I'm the same way. I love old school gameplay, but there's nothing wrong with a fresh coat of paint.

I got it today.
My 360 comes and goes, so I have been able to play a fair bit (not sure what to do in the longterm).

The game is awesome. It feels a lot different from Street Fighter II - in some ways it's slower. Ryu feels a lot heavier than usual and moves slower. That's not a bad things though. It's just different. Other characters feel more fluid or faster. There's a good range there.

I just hope they didn't slow it down deliberately so they can release Street Fighter IV Turbo next year.

The fighting has a lot of depth to it. There are two kinds of super moves - one bar fills when you get hit, the other when you hit them. It's not too complicated but it is a new system to learn and I haven't figured it out yet. Besides this there are Focus attacks and EX moves, which I know nothing about.
I think to become a master at this game, you'll need more than the standard moves.

The 360 controller works well (better than it should). I use the analog stick because the D-pad is horrible, but it's not a problem - i usually pull the moves off fine.

The good thing is that this isn't just Street Fighter II with 3D models. This game doesn't replace Street Fighter II - it's different enough that they can coexist. I need to spend more time with it before I decide which I prefer.

I think for the competition tomorrow, I'll focus on either Blanka or Ken. Ken seems faster than Ryu and doesn't have the shortcomings he had in other games (namely the shorter range on his hurricane kick). On the other hand Blanka is much faster and simpler to use (but I haven't had as much practice with him). I'll practice a bit tonight and see what happens. Unfortunately the computer will never play like a real person (real people are usually cheaper).

Also, if you're hesitant about getting a 360 maybe try for a PS3. Most of the big games come out on PS3 and the rumours are that it will be down to 300 soon (half the launch price). Also it'll probably be compatible with your PS2 collection. The only downside is that Microsoft has the better online system but PlayStation is catching up in that. The hardware's more reliable but there are some games that won't come out (not many these days, I think).
Plus the PS3 has an actual D-Pad on the controller.

Sorry for the double post.

The competition went well. I came second out of nearly 20 people (not sure of the exact count). I dominated the first three guys I played. I lost in the fourth competition round (the final).
The guy who beat me was amazing - probably professional level - there's definitely no shame in losing to him (I was definitely second best overall).

After playing against real people in a competition environment, I'm fairly certain of the quality of the game. Street Fighter IV is definitely as good as SFII was when it came out and definitely one of the best multiplayer games of this generation.

i just played SF IV and I must say its as good, if not better than 2. The anime cut scenes during arade mode though are a joke. But otherwise its good. I just hope they dont make so many different variations of SF 4 that they expect us to shell out 60 bucks for.

Oh, you weren't down with Extra Super SF II Tournament Swahili Edition?

I usually do criticise Capcom for milking Street Fighter II but I do admit that the updates usually were good enough to make the game worth buying again (I've only bought Street Fighter II twice though, so I got off lucky).

The difference between Street Figher II and Street Fighter II Turbo is huge. Playing the first game is like playing Street Fighter underwater compared to Turbo. Then The New Challengers brought 4 new characters so it was a significant step up.
I don't know much about the releases after these (I think they were fairly minor - speed changes and graphical improvements to make the home version closer to the arcade. I could be wrong though).

I guess my point is, that even though Capcom milked SFII to death it wasn't out of laziness or greediness. They put significant work into each update and each one was significant enough.
Even SSFIITHD Remix, while the same game at heart, had enough gameplay and presentation changes for it to be worth the purchase (I bought it even though I still have a perfectly good Turbo cartridge on SNES).

Hopefully, with SFIV, any updates or improvements they want to make can be done with downloadable patches - using the existing resources and adding to them. I'm not a big fan of DLC but it's better than another full release of the same game.

Dude, I played a few rounds at Gamestop on my lunch break today. This game is awesome.

It "feels" like classic SF but the graphics and animation or gorgeous. Did pretty good, too. Got through 3 rounds with Ryu before I had to go back to work.

Later this year when I finally get a 360, this game is coming home with me.

I got this for my PS3. The game is gorgeous, flashy, and responds excellently. I have to say though that the final boss is CHEAP. He's harder than Akuma and Gouken. I've unlocked all the characters so far and like most of the new ones (except El Fuerte, just can't do any of his moves). Great game so far, definitely recommend it.
