Smells, music, story pieces that remind you of a game.

You might thing what the hell is this tropic about, did ERIKJUST grow senile or something like that?

No let me start by telling a little story:
I was still living at home and went in 10th grade I had just played System Shock 2 on my own PC so naturally I wanted to try System Shock, if nothing else just to get the story of what had happened in the first game.

Unfortunately there was a problem my own computer didn´t have what it took to play the game or rater it was too new so I couldn´t run this game in Windows It had to be started and run in DOS and they stopped doing that ever since win 95 got replaced by the 98 version.

So I went up and used my little brother pc, it being of an older version that used win 95, I could run System Shock 1 whitout a problem.

Now my little brothers room had just been painted so it smelled of fresh paint and so it did for the remainder of the time it took me to complete this game.

Ever since that time I am instantly brought back to the memory of System Shock 1, the very smell of fresh paint on a wall has become synonymous to System Shock 1.

Now fast forwarding to the present, where I was playing Port Royal 2 while hearing and audio book on one of Tamora pirces books (I like to listen to audio books as they let you do a lot of thing at the same time as playing) I reheard it later and the image of port Royal 2 instantly sprang up in my mind.

So that is what the tropic is really about I know it’s a little weird but at the same time it could be fun if any of you guys have a similar story to mine, if there is a music piece, a taste, a smell or anything like that, that instantly brings you back to a game you´ve been playing even though it may be several years since you last played it?

When I was about 7 or 8, our Sega was setup on the TV in my sister's bedroom. She'd always be playing really bad pop music (boy bands etc.) while I was playing Sonic (I'd always have to play with the sound down).
For a few years after that, whenever I played Sonic, I'd have that music playing in my head. My mind had made that association.

These days I listen to podcasts (IGN has some good stuff, but I also listen to Ben Heck and The Megas) when I'm playing. Sometimes if I'm playing part of a game I was playing during a podcast, I will remember exactly what somebody said when I was at that point before.

Every now and then a smell will remind me of the Commodore 64, but I can never really place the memory exactly. I'm not sure where that comes from.

I'm sure if I think hard enough, I can come up with something I've smelled or heard relating to a video game.
