I thought it would be kinda neat if 'Grumble & Glorify' would take a look at the rarely seen 'Fantastic Four' movie that Roger Corman attempted to make in the early 90's. I remember seeing this in a magazine, and was excited about the prospect of seeing Marvel's first family brought to life on the silver screen. Sadly, the end result wasn't very good from what i've heard, and Marvel tried to hide this film from the public. (Unless you attend comic conventions, and found a bootleg copy of it for yourself.) While it's probably not as polished as Tim Story's 'Fantastic Four' movies, it's still worth looking into just for comparison. _________________ If it's got wings, i can crash it!

The film was never meant for release. They were obligated to make a film within a certain time period, or else they would lose the rights to the characters. They decided to make a low budget film and never release it - just to keep the rights.
I have a bootleg of it. I think it's actually okay. It's not that good a movie but it is fun and very comic-booky. The moleman is in it as one of the villains. I like the design they used for The Thing, but the quality of the costume wasn't too good. _________________ http://www.what-song.net http://www.rogershanks.com
I saw little bits of it. We gotta do that movie sometime. I'll grab it from Midtown sometime, cause I know they have it.
Still, Jessica Alba. OHH GIGGITY GIGGITY!! _________________ John R. Gibson

One thing i will say is that while the Thing costume from Corman's movie looked kinda cool, it didn't look nearly as believable as Michael Chiklis's costume. Especially if you see both of them set in motion. _________________ If it's got wings, i can crash it!
I'd like to review this in March or April 2008. Gotta space out those superhero reviews, I already got Greatest American Hero planned for February. _________________ John R. Gibson

I haven't seen corman's film, but a friend of mine recently got it on dvd and told me that it was better than the big budget one that came out recently. Which I figured, the new fantastic four movie was awful (did not see the second one, though)
In his exact words: "There's nothing wrong with the story, it's quite a lot better than the new one, it's just very low budget, on par with an episode of power rangers"
Sounds like the kind of campy fun that I could get into.
Eh, it was ok, like the first one. Neither one was exceptional. Just ok.
So looks like the Roger Corman one is next. _________________ John R. Gibson

btw launchpad a very small piece of my soul dies every time I see your avatar.
Yeah, i know. That movie's notorious nearly killing George Lucas' career, but i liked it when i was younger, and it's still a guilty pleasure of mine. (Still waiting for the DVD, though.) I did enjoy the comic for it's scathing satire on society, though. Check out the 'Howard' miniseries from Marvel's MAX line. Great stuff.

I enjoyed both 'Fantastic Four' movies despite their shortcomings. I think Michael Chikles, and Chris Evens did exceptional work in nailing the banter that Johnny, and Ben have from time to time. Ioan Gruffudd brings Reed Richards right out of the comic page with some good results, and while Jessica Alba's acting is questionable at best, she's certainly easy on the eyes. I think the second film's true highlight was how they brought The Silver Surfer to life, and it's easy for most people to compare The Surfer from the T-1000 in 'Terminator 2' since they both have a 'liquid metal' look to them. _________________ If it's got wings, i can crash it!
