While i don't live in the New York area, it's sad to see another rock station bite the dust.

Well, as of March 11, at 5pm, the radio station was killed again. The new format is now top 40. The DJs are gone, and the name has changed.
While I'm upset about this, the only good thing about it this time is that I've got another rock station to fall back on. New Yorkers and perhaps those in New Jersey can now listen to 101.9 WRXP. That's a slightly more diverse rock station than K-Rock was though. They play an healthy mix of modern rock, classic rock, alternative, and things from indie acts.
It really sucks that the rock was ditched for top 40. They'll be playing the type of music that rock fans hate the most! As for the surviving rock station, they were cool enough to have two of the DJs from the old station on their morning talk show so they could have a chance to say a goodbye to their fans.
Someone said something about how these corporations don't seem to think that there's a market for rock in New York City. If they really think that, then they need a swift kick in the ass. I mean, rock, along with rap, hip hop and R&B, is an integral part of the NYC music scene for Christ's sake. I listen to stations that play other types of music too, but I need my rock.
And like science fiction, rock music gets no love from the mainstream media.
