Haven't seen the show, but I have an idea of what it's like. Nothing like exploiting your children cause your life was shit, and you need to live your life through your children.

Taking the TV show out of the equation, what makes a parent force a child into doing a pageant, or joining a marching band, or some other activity they really didn't want to do in the first place?

The easiest answer, and the most full of bullshit one, is you want your child(ren) to be involved in something worthwhile, so they stay away from drugs.

Sorry, when I was growing up, I knew I had no interest in drugs, and not because TV commercials said that drugs are bad.

I'm also sorry to say that I had to participate in extra curricular activities on the weekend. Soccer and Fishing. Couldn't play Soccer worth a damn, and only caught one fish, which I didn't even get to eat. No one knew how to cook it. I probably could have gutted the fish, and put some circuits inside so it plays "Don't worry, be happy", but that's another story.

The point of these dumb activities was to make friends. I didn't. Why? No interest. If I was, I would have made friends on my own. Same applies to pageants. If a child wants to enter one, they'll do it on their own. No pressure.

When guys compete against each other, it's to basically prove the size of their penis, more or less.

When mothers compete, it's to prove that they have the better child, and in turn, the mother feels better about herself, and how shitty her life was.

I'm no doctor, I don't have a PhD. These are just opinions.
