As much as I'm not too crazy about the new or fairly new consoles, I feel I should be flexible, to a degree, so I've decided to save up and buy a PS2. they have it at Best Buy for like $130. As far as a game, eh, I'll rent until I save up and buy something I like. I've noticed some games I am interested in playing aren't available for Gamecube, it's usually PS2 only, or that and X-Box. That's another thing. I wonder if I should save and get an X-Box, too. A good friend of mine is suggesting I get a newer console, and by that, I guess he means x-box 360, or Nintendo DS. I saw some DS footage last night of Super Mario. Interesting, but what I really need is the means to record some DS games for the TV show, and right now, their emulators haven't quite met my needs yet. I hope none of you think I am turning my back on the whole classic/retro gaming scene. We'll still cover as much of the classics as possible. I feel an upgrade is necessary, expanding our coverage is important. Also downloaded an Intellivision emu, so we'll see if that works well with my TV output. If you're wondering about VMR, well, we're still putting out the June show, and will most likely feature a review to Ultimate Spiderman, another recent untitled game, and a few classic ones. If the TV show can't be delivered this month, it'll be next. We'll see what happens.

Ps2 is a good choice i guess. Prices are low. I read there are (in the us anyway) more ps2's being sold than xbox360's. Go figure! I'm waiting for the moment. I bought a ds as latests gamingsystem and they don't have tv out but i'm sure google search will lead to someone who did pull it off... Smile My gaming interest is low at the moment. I discovered family guy and american dad and it takes the best part of my free time i want to spend doing "nothing" so... Only one drawback for the ps2; the memory cards are expensive. But that's only a problem if you play 10 games at a time like me. I play 10% of a game and if it's good i'll resume playing at a later time, otherwise i sell it again. I buy 2nd hand most of the time though. Most games aren't worth my hard earned cash anyway.
And dammit, put on the show already!! Wink

You should buy all consoles so you can give us more reviews. Good quality games are in every console. Sony really gave us games to play with with the PSX and PS2 i mean they dominated the past 2 generations. The PS3 is not looking that good but we'll see in the future how it does.

I'm really enjoying my PS2 now that it's outdated and the games are dirt cheap. Every game you could want is now 20 bucks or less. It's the perfect sysytem for the working stiff!

It's actually the best time to get a PS2 right now. Most of it's best games are in the bargain bins, and you can get them for a steal. I've really been stocking up on PS2 games currently, because they'll never be this cheap again.

I did the same thing at the end of the PS1's life too, and I'm glad, because most of the games I got for a seal, are way too expensive now on ebay.

My suggestion is to get one, and load up on the games you want to play before they go up in price.

If you want any suggestions, then feel free to ask me. I've got 215 PS2 games.

Here's my PS2 collection:

What kind of games are you into? I know you don't like RPGs, but what are your favorite genres to play?

Also, the PS2 has many awesome classic compilations, so you can go modern, and stay to your retro roots as well.

Ones like The Sega Genesis Collection, Midway Arcade Treasures, and the Capcom Classics collections. I've even been picking up various SNK compilations like Fatal Fury Battle Archives, and The Art of Fighting Anthology. There's also the new SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1, and a World Heroes compilations that I'm going to be purchasing too.

I honestly believe the PS2 is one of the best consoles ever. Tons and tons of GREAT games. Lots of variety. Like sports games? RPG's? Shmups? FPS's? PS2's got you covered.

I love all the compilations, too. Now I wish Konami would put out a compilation!

It's been a while since a PS2 review, hasn't it?

We're on it! We got one lined up for next episode.

Hint: It's not Madden and it doesn't involve bandicoots.

That's what I've really enjoyed about both Playstation consoles. Both had an awesome variety of games. If you were a fan of any genre, it had good games in every genre. Sure, other systems may have had some better games in some of the genres, but both PS consoles still had good games in even their weakest genres. They had games in every genre you can think of.

The other consoles in each generation had gaps of certain genres in their libraries that the PS1 and PS2 didn't.

I'm not trashing the other systems they competed with, because each system had their fair share of classics so much as admiring the variety of the PS1 and PS2's libraries.
