This could work as a quickie segment (with or without voiceover, or music).

Think about this. These days, there are hardly games you can play within 60 seconds. You either have to sit through a 4 minute cut-scene, or navigate through a slew of options before actually beginning a game for the first time.

What I'm thinking is take a game (either classic or modern), and have a time limit in the corner, and see how far one can get within 1 minute of playing.

Suppose we showed Super Mario Bros 2 played for a minute, then cut to a modern game. There will be quite a difference. We all know that.

I'd certainly like to give this a try, but perhaps I'm missing a key element. Folks, do chime in with your thoughts, or suggestions.

I agree with you mostly but there are some modern games that can be played in short bursts.

I used to play a lot of Mario Kart DS before work.
If I only had a minute or two before I had to leave that was still plenty of time to cram in a race or two.

Something arcadey like a racing game (especially on a handheld) can be played in around a minute (maybe not a full race but enough to have fun) but I do agree that most modern games are becoming exaggerated.

I just started a game of Super Paper Mario and I had to wait about 10-20 minutes before the game actually started (I might be exaggerating).

I think there's a segment on The Nostalgia Critic's website where they showcase movies in 5 seconds.

I'd still like to try this, though maybe 60 seconds is too limiting.

I'll wait until after I debut my new segment in the November episode.

In most modern games, the first 60 seconds it the beginning load screen.

I love how you can just jump right into the classics, and start playing. Today's games are just a little too involved.

Lately, I haven't even so much as touched my modern systems. Been playing my Snes mostly.
